I appologize for the newbie questions but I'm trying to find new rims for my R and it really is a jungle out there! I have looked through the archives and JimLil's offset tutorial (and wheel offset calculator) but I'm still really confused!!
I have also reached out to the three biggest rim wholesalers in Sweden and nobody can give me any good advice on which 18" rims will fit the car!
My question to you is:
1. Can i go with 18x8 as well as 18x7,5?
2. What is the max and min offset threshold? (both with and without spacers)
Would a wheel with 8x18 5/108 ET40 B73.1 fit the caR without spacers?
http://www.bythjul.com/?page=129&item=24043
If spacers are needed what is the maximum I can go without jeapordizing the handling?
Thanks in advance!

In terms of offset you would not want anything lower than ET37. With regard to clearance it depends on the design of the wheel. Lower offset typically implies more clearance but the design also plays a role. It doesn't look like the linked wheel would fit.

Re: Rims for the R (m3nt0s)

So ET 40 would work with 5mm spacers all around?
With the R, you *cannot* simply buy a wheel off the shelf, even if it has the correct offset, diameter, width, bolt-pattern, hub-bore, etc...
The Brembo calipers on the R stick out so far, that all of those measurements are futile, if the spoke design doesn't allow for enough clearance for the caliper itself, so it's a size issue *and* a design issue. This is the main reason for the jungle you've found
For example, any wheel that would fit an AWD S60 would have the correct hub-bore, bolt-patter, offset (potentially), diameter and width, but most of those wheels simply will not fit on the S60R because the brakes stick out too far.

or look here:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=13579
Jim Lill put together a template which can be used to determine the x-factor clearance of a rim (the clearance for brake caliper). It will be tough to use it for purchasing online (unless you can get the wheel seller to use this template and take a pic showing you that the rims fit), but it should explain perfectly what the deal is with R wheel fitment issues.

Re: Rims for the R (VolvokidS60R)

I think what Joelvo was getting at is that the options for performance mods aren't plentiful and that the bang for buck isn't there. we all know that.
I don't think he was saying that the mods we do have are pointless nor do i think the camry comment was serious. if it was --> i'd take my R anyday over a run of the mill camry.
that said, i want an intercooler and will get one as soon as the budget allows and i'm envious of those that have them.
