I bought my 2007 Volvo S60 2.5t used and noticed a lot of dings and scratches on the rims. I am going to sand down the wheels and re paint them. Should I stick with the stock silver color or change them?

Congrats on the purchase, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Since they are stock 16's why not just refinish in a nice Duplicolor Wheel Paint in bright silver and repaint those nasty yellow calipers with a good Duplicolor Ceramic Brake Paint (silver)???

Or save up for a nice set of 18 or 19" wheels.....aftermarket wheels can often pull off colors that stock wheels can't.

Have fun with it, it's your car so, in the end, do what you want and not what the internet says.

Thanks for the advice, I am defiantly repainting the calipers to silver. As I am still in high school I cant afford new wheels but it is on my long to-do list.

Welcome to the forum; lots of good info and help not to mention the social aspect of conversing with other Volvo owners.

High School - I think I remember High School.

If you are going to keep the stock wheels I would paint them the silver again or maybe a few shades darker.
Refinishing aluminum wheels can be tricky to make it look right if the damage is fairly deep - but cleaning them up will of course help.

I can understand funds, and 18 or 19 inch wheels can get pricy all on their own and especially when it comes time to replace the tires.
So if you have decent tread left clean up your rims and save up some cash.

I am a wee bit older than you and have a family with 3 teenage boys so money is an issue for me too most of the time and because I have a wife who really isn't into me spending money on my cars... She thinks things like cloths and food for the boys is more important. Whatever!

But I had to upgrade to different wheels - Every S60 in my area had the same wheels you have; I had to look a little different.

I went to Tire rack and bought some 17" wheels and tires = Around $900 bucks delivered.
Only $100 per wheel and about the same for the rubber.

So if you have decent tread left clean up your wheels run them for a while and save up some cash.
You don't have to buy the most expensive wheels to change the way your car looks.

I also took my old rims (Two were toast) to my local salvage yard and got about $80 bucks for them as scrap. (Maybe I could have sold them for more but I just wanted them gone)

I'd go back on the brakes and get a set of 17s (do it affordably with the sparcos unless you have $$$$ for even lighter wheels). If it bothers you that much keep them silver and only paint the face so you don't get chips every time new tires get mounted (if you don't go 17s for summer tires).

With those wheels I'd definitely stick with silver.

Also when I was in high school and needed a set of rims I scoured Craigslist until I could find a good deal on a set of better looking wheels that were in need of tires since you can usually get them dirt cheap that way. Then I bought tires and mounted them when my original tires needed to be replaced this way I was able to save money and spread out the cost, and had a set of wheels left over for snow tires.

I listened to all of you, but did my own thing and plasti-dipped the rims black. The calipers really look good yellow so i might keep them that color. I really like the way they look but some people have said it looks ****.

How'd you do this? Did you spray/brush this on, or remove the wheels & tires and actually dip them?

I'll admit it looks pretty decent. Not bad for a young'en.

You can spray, brush or dip it on, I imagine OP sprayed it on.

On topic, I think the wheels look fine, they are black that's for sure. I think the calipers scream "I just went to PepPoys and bought yellow caliper paint for stock calipers!!!!" The yellow just looks very odd to me to say the least, if you like it than that's great.

Now that school is out you should get a summer job, save up and go buy a full exhaust and get a tune for it!

I took the wheels off and sprayed the plasti-dip on, it took about an hour for all 4 wheels. I do have a summer job and working on getting a full exhaust system, the stock one sounds like a prius, and it is no fun when people can't hear you!!

Car looks pretty sweet by the way, I had an 08 S60, same wheels, green/silver exterior. I have to say yours looks a hell of a lot better than mine did.

Yeah just a tip - if I "hear" you first and then see that you're driving a Volvo, I'm probably going to laugh at you. Louder isn't always better. Don't go sticking some 20-series fart-can on there 'cause then you're just a teenage douche.

Yeah I am not looking for a exhaust that sounds like it has no muffler or resonator. I am looking for one that sounds deeper and a bit louder. Are there any exhaust systems that you would recommend?

As far as exhausts go - lots of options from spending a small fortune to having one custom made...
Check out the search feature here and Google it and you will come up with a lot of options.

Personally, as a muscle car enthusiast, I've always been a fan of the Flowmaster - somethin 50-series and up. The lower the number (20, 30 series) the raspier/faster-and-furiouser sounding. The higher the number, the more muscle-car tone. They're cheap, come in any size and offset, and any exhaust shop can install 'em quick.

But, as I'm not very well in-tune with the aftermarket for these cars specifically, there might be something from Evolve or someone else custom-made for these cars, though I'm willing to bet you'll spend twice the price.

Again, just my opinion.
