Since the new S80 model is just around the corner I am hoping there will be good deals on MY06 S80s. Can anyone compare it with the S60?
Currently I have a MY04 S60 NA. I would like to improve power and rear legroom. I would also like a car that has a softer suspension. Everything else on the S60 I like. I can tell the S80 would give me more power and legroom but I am not sure about the ride.

Very similar.
I used to own an S60 but have driven many S80s, close your eyes and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference

S80 is quite comfortable, although I hate how it rides over pothles. It crashes down a bit harsh sometimes. It also makes me feel a bit disconnected at high speeds. I think it might just be the Michelins. Tires are so important and always overlooked.

For those of you who have driven s80's, I've read that the seats in the s80 aren't as comfortable as the s60 seats.
True?

S80 seats are very nice, but I do sometimes have some lumbar issues. The knob to adjust it is in a ridiculous location too. The center console gets in the way in almost all positions. Again, can't say for the S60, but I doubt you'll be disappointed in the S80.

The lumbar 'wheel' in the s60 is place equally poorly. It's impossible to adjust without banging your knuckles, and twisting the hell out of your arm.

Both our cars (S60 and XC90) have full electric seats, why can't the lumbar position be electrically operated as well?

The S80 T6 has very similar seats to the S60 T5 ande S60 R - all are very comfortable. The lesser trim lines have similar seats as well, though somewhat less comfortable and a lot less supportive with respect to lateral G forces

The S80 has a much more compliant ride than a turbo S60, especially a T5 or an R.
Yannis

Re: (GrecianVolvo)

I used to have an 04 S60 2.5t - Nice seats, nice ride quality.
My 04 S80 2.5t - seats seem more cushy, and the ride quality seems more, "floaty". That's really the wrong word, but the S80 def feels smoother on the highway than the S60 did IMO.
Tim

Re: ride characterisctics S60 vs S80... (JRL)

Thanks for the replies. To me, the S60 suspension is too firm even with 16" tires at 32 psi. I've heard that the new Koni FSD shocks are very good to smooth out bumps. Anyone has any experience with aftermarket shocks/struts?

I've also found that tires can mean a big difference on ride quality. I noticed you talked about 32 PSI. I'm glad you even realize that much, but if the Goodyear Comfortreads work out well on the Contour, I'm going to try and find them in the Volvo's size. I like what I have heard about them. I don't care if the speed rating is a bit low. This car isn't going above 90 MPH ever. Comfort over high speed.
