I was thinking of buying a rica ecu programmer for My 2001 C70. Has anyone bought one of these? I saw it on Eurosport tuning's website and it looks pretty legit but I was just wondering if someone actually had one and was using it and what they thought of it?

Re: (C70drvr)

the problem with speed tuning is, oliver solders onto the board and flashes your eeprom. there is no way of checking the flash was good until you get the ecu back and install it. this means there is goign to be mixes reviews about his stuff. oliver is semi local to me 100miles. to me its worth the drive to him to get my ecu tuned. so far i have a 100% success rate with him on three tunes with my cars
94 855 15psi tune 145k
99 xc70 17psi tune with a 16t 165k
01 c70 vert HPT manual with a 18t, D/P, bov 88k
i can say that for the $$ can't beat it. I originally hated Speed tuning because it caused my CEL to come on. turns out i had ALOT of worn out parts adn the tune made it rear its ugly head.
my 01 would not boost over 7psi with the tune. i changed the TCV with a IPD TCV. changed out all the vac hoses. same thing, until finally i check the hose diagrams and it was routed wrong. now i am a happy camper.
on my 99xc70 with 165k, my car ran crappy after 2hrs with the tune. until 2 days later the car finally threw a p0303 code and 250 miles. my car had 165k on the stock coils, for oem 6psi its fine, for 17psi it was not
moral of my story is make sure your car is up to snuff before considering a tune. ST, PPC, softloader whatever it is, will do the same thing. i think alot of people that spend the $1000 tune do not come on the forums to bitch about it, they just call IPD and get "tech support". Oliver does not offer that, hence you get people bitching on the forums about how ****ty ST tunes are....but its not the tune....its the ****ty car lol

my car would not start with speedtuning ECU when it came back rechipped and i had to send it back to them so they could do it again(it has been said a small % of tunes regardless of the tuner gets corrupted, i was just unlucky, i guess). it was aggravating to say the least. the re-rechipping proved to be successful and combined with the larger 15g turbo, it really woke up the car and it is a joy to drive. i would get another ST tune if the need arose.

Re: (db130)

I had the ST stage 2 chip in my car for about 1 year back when I had my C70... 98 C70 HPT 5-SPD.
It did make pretty good power (225whp 295wtq) which is pretty decent considering the price. But if I had to do it again, I would definitely get the flash programmer (IPD - RICA ).
