hey, sooo i want to use my highs as my drl's as found in a topic in the "r" forum.
"A little more thorough this evening, I left the plugs connected and backprobed the plug at the lamp - the low beam circuit stays energized when high beams are on. Apparently having an open circuit with the connectors unplugged faulted to turn off the low beam circuit when switched to high beams - who knows why...it's all module-controlled, must be some "safety" fault
And being the old engineer fart that I am, my initial approach was far too complicated, so after a Homer Simpson "DOH", here's the simplest revision, based on the harness that came off my '05, wire colors can vary year-to-year:
1) Look at the lamp jumper harness. Where it plugs into the socket at the lamp, there's a 6-pin connector:
- Find the thick red wire - that's pin #1, the high beam power wire.
- Directly beneath the red wire is a thick black wire - pin #4, the ground wire.
- The thick yellow wire at pin #6 is the DRL power wire.
2) Cut the sheath off the jumper harness.
3) Cut the yellow DRL power wire.
4) Splice the lamp-end of the yellow wire to the red wire.
5) Ground the body-end of the yellow wire to close the "bulb out" diagnostic circuit (even with your DRLs programmed off, apparently any open lighting circuit will generate a fault).
6) Turn the headlights on, test for correct function, then tie-wrap the sheath back on the harness (if you want).
7) Your DRL bulb will now burn when your high beams are switched on....
8) ...only if you've had your DRL's turned off.
This was so simple to do on my wife's car this evening, and it works perfectly - it took me about an hour, and that's just because I took my time and used heat-shrink on the splices.
It's no substitue for the superior lighting focus of the Euro lamps, but it's substantially better than US "high beams" "
But i need help with a 2005 s60 T5 without Hids. The instructions above seem to only apply to an "R"....anyone know what to do or have done this????
