Hey all:
Just got done detailing the exerior of the R (4 hours!) with some new Griot's Garage products that I just got. Thought that I'd give a brief review if you're interested.
1) Drying Squeege......dont' bother. Not big enough to be effective, but big enough to be awkward. Foam rubber blade pulled out of holder after about 2 minutes. Going back.
2) Clay bar.....excelent! Have used Mother's clay bar in the past, and this is much better. Softer and seems to pick up more dirt. Because it was softer, it was easy to keep rotating it and keep it clean. I used only 1/4 of the bar for the whole car and stil had clean spots. Nice. The softness means, though, that you should get one of their holder pads to hold it. Kept conforming (and sticking) to my fingers. Conformed to the car nicely, though, and really pulled off the dirt.
3) Speed shine......very, very nice. Much better than any auto store or even specialty shop's spray. Goes on smooth, wipes off smooth, and no streaks. Really was a good match for the clay bar, and did a good job last night when I got back on some bugs and dust.
4) Finest hand polish.....worked well, but less cutting power than I wanted. I am used to 3M Imperial hand glaze, and that has more cutting power without ruining the finish. Took care of very light swirls, but not some heavier car wash marks (not me, previous owner) and small door dings (ditto!). Would go back to 3M or use one of their heavier polishes.
5) Paint sealant.....very nice. Yes, this is a sealant, not a wax. Our cars see too much use and we don't have enough time to wax every other month. I bought the spray on wax to use between seals, but haven't used it yet. Sealant went on nice, dried well and came off well. Nice shine, but not quite as nice as a really good wax (I use 1 Grand Blitz Wax). But very nice for a daily driver.
6) Bumper and trim reconditioner.....excellent minus. This dye really brought out the black in the '04 R's trim. Set off nicely against the Ti Gray. Went on a bit streaky, and the flow was hard to control into the sponge, but the sponge took abuse FABOULOUSLY, even on the rough rocker panels. If you can figure out how to apply it evenly, it's great.
7) Long lasting tire dressing....very nice. Thick liquid, went on nicely. One coat for satin, two for gloss. Did not spray on the rockers (or into the mudflaps) two hours later. Will post on how long it lasts.
Ciao!
