I'd be interested on doing this too....but since trying to do the auto dimming mirror apparently seems to bring problems (only 1 person did it successfully), I'm sure this is going to be hard too.
I don't have the climate package, so I'm not sure, but don't you also need a new control stalk/module (not sure what it's called) on the steering column? I'm pretty sure the stalk on climate-equipped cars has an "auto" position (or the like) that non-climate cars don't have. I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound entirely user-serviceable to me.

I've got Climate and the rain sensing wiper is NOT worth the effort in My opinion. The sensor is right where the wipers seem to overlap and throw a drop or two of water which triggers the wipers to cycle again. I love My heated seats, the headlamp washers are cool.... but every time I try to run the rain sensing wipers I put them back on a slow interval wipe after less than a minute.

If they're that useless something is wrong. I have done the Tahoe to San Francisco run a few times where you go from blizzard through driving rain to intermittent rain to sunshine... I switch them on at the start and they're good the whole way home.
Mullmann - the rain sensing option adds a button in the same place as the reset button for the trip computer on the other stalk (button B below):

UKMatt

Re: (ukmatt)

There is a new software update for the rain sensor. Couldn't find it at the moment, but I remember the description referring to "erratic wiper behavior". It's not the streaking wiper TNN though, it's separate.

MATT - I've done everything to adjust sensitivity except put duct tape on the windshield..... Actually the silver gray stuff would color match My car pretty closely.... I haven't been contacted by My dealer or Volvo about ANY recalls.... As soon as Volvo acknowledges a fix for SSS I have a list of things to get fixed. I've called My Service Mgr. three times in the last year and He's never heard of the problem. I'll add that update to My list. Thanks! If the wipers weren't so sensitive I'd use that featur more.
My car turns over 27,000 miles tonight.....Other than oil/filter changes I do myself I haven't had any problems requiring a trip back to the dealer.

I soo wish I had had the extra allowance to order some extras on my car.
My last 2 cars have had cruise and auto wipers and I really miss both badly, they have fantastic benefits

I find city driving is what gives the sensor erratic behaviour.

If you want to do this....(just got of the phone with John from Boston Volvo) you will need to replace your windshield because the cars with the rain sensor have a portion that would be blacked out on the non rain sensor cars (I hope that makes sense)
I guess it could be done but you'll probably need software upgrades, new windshield, and take apart the stalk from the steering wheel, and the casing on the map lights....it sounds too complicated and too much work!!!
If anyone did this please share! Good luck
