They can't very well build support anymore through the use of the Iraq war in their campaign for the upcoming elections, ..so Iran is the next best politically expedient focus for their machinations.<p>We could hope that it's all a pose and a blustering feint, ..... a false threat put forth without the expectation that they will be forced to confront if it all blows up in their face.<p>(...but from past experience, we can't put anything past these addle-headed buffoons.)

There is nothing about any of this that should lead anyone to believe this may be merely "a pose or a blustering feint". I don't know of anyone who believes negotiations will achieve the US goal of Iran scrapping its nuclear weapons program. After Iraq, the mullahs know they can't. It's the only thing standing between them and "regime change". The Iranian leadership has been very clear in this regard. They have no intention of complying.<p> <I>Of course</I> the US is laying plans to attack Iran's known weapons facilities. The White House has been quite clear on that point. That military action has never been off the table is pronounced at every opportunity. With the track record of this administration well established and the key players firmly entrenched in the Pentagon, State, Justice and the UN, why would anyone expect anything less? It's just a matter of time. (sigh)
