I really want to add a downpipe with the Bsr kit and exhaust system I have now. But As this has been disscused before the downpipe is not compatible with the Bsr Kit. R Kelly's freind has this combo with no problems but I dunno.. anyways here is the response I got from Bsr today about this..
How can I not get more Hp with better free flow?

BSR: 05-17-06 09:11 pm
Hello Adam,
I want to purchase a downpipe now along with the Bsr PPC kit and exhaust. Can I do that?
BSR: No. There will be no power increase what so ever and we do not have a sw suitable for a 3"downpipe (steg3).
Best regards /BSR
I don't buy BSR's response. How can having the exhaust breathe easier not help things??? I must say the evolve 3" (not 3.5") DP looks really nice.

Maybe someone who is a qualified could explain it.
Is it no improvement with BSR's current software & a downpipe or are they stating no improvement with a downpipe?

Maybe that's by mistake or by design by BSR?
Most of what we know here at SS about the R says a better DP increases power.
Kelly's friend probably runs European 98 RON which is similar to North American 94 or 95 (R+M)/2. I bet overboost happens in high temps with low octane. I'll hazard a guess that in cool temps running 94 (R+M)/2 with EST/Ferrita 3" DP and BSR ECU tune will be just fine. But that'a only a guess.
We can ask EST since they may have a customer with this configuration here in Canada.
LTA

I told him to aks his customer in Montreal he will let me know. The whole seems weird to me wouldn't the software prevent over boosting? Isn't that the whole point of a "smart Ecu" I dunno.. I guess LTA and me will have to do some races on a( closed hemm Allen rd..course) and see the diff..lol

a bigger DP will not increase the peak steady state HP. It WILL improve the transient HP levels up through the revs.
The BSR/PPC 3"DP mismatch issue was identified 2 years ago by rharder here and in spite of many attempts, including running 100 octane, there is still an issue with detonation under some conditions.

Here is another reply I got from them.. I asked them again why exactly... and this is what I got.
BSR: 05-18-06 08:07 am
Hello Adam,
BSR: No. The turbo is to small, the injectors to small, the intercooler to small......
Best regards /BSR
looking at it from an engineering perspective, and this should be pretty obvious: you can only flow as much air as the smallest diameter...meaning you are only going to be able to flow the CFM that is able to pass through that small port in the collector of the manifold. Now with that said, a downpipe will allow a slightly quicker spool because it has more volume to fill than stock, but once it builds up that pressure, you are back where you started. As Jim said, you won't gain HP overall, just momentary.
I hope this helps somewhat; I'm kinda bad at explaining this.

I understand. But why are all other companies like Evolve , powerchips , Rica saying that that a exhaust and ecu upgrade gives good gains but the downpipe is what really adds the Hp. Evolve says there downpipe add s 20 Hp alone. There power package is for 370 hp so I dunno.

For those of you that do have an aftermarket DP, do you FEEL a difference in the car? So many people do have aftermarket DP's, there must be a reason other than just wasting money
