I've got the aluminum HEICO door pins, and I want to remove these and put back the originals. Has anybody done that? Any tips. I installed them with just a little difficulty. I fear that removing the original plastic ones may have stripped the thread pattern and they won't go back as they were.

Re: Replacing door pins (soledoc)

Use a nice thick piece of rubber tubing as a protective sleve and a pair of pliers. That's how I got mine on .. I would assume off would be the same. No damage to eiter set of my pins.

I'm just wondering how tough it would be to slip that original plactic door pin back into the proper position.

Re: Replacing door pins (soledoc)

NO problem at all to re-fit the original lock knobs.
I had to do this in a hurry with my killed '05, and the original plastic is compliant and soft enough to still hold onto the rod with authority.
I do have a question about your Heicos. Are they solid threaded billets, or do they contain a plastic core? I have constant problems with the Takspeed shells working off the plastic cores. I've considered replacing them.

Re: Replacing door pins (sgmlaw)

If I recall, the HEICO pins were all milled...no plastic core. I have the takspeed pins in my V70R and they had plastic core which I didn't like as well. The HEICO pins fit much better I'm afraid to say to vizwiz and the takspeed crew.
But...to my horror, I can't find the original pins so I may have to sell the car with the nice HEICO pins in place. I'm driving to Cincinnati tomorrow to do the deal. AGHH I really don't want to give up my aluminum pins.

The Heico pins also have a plastic inner sleeve. I've had my Heicos on and off a few times. Mine are the pins the Takspeed ones are modeled after.

Re: Replacing door pins (Our R)

That's right. I think I do remember the plastic sleeve now on the HEICOs. I'm going to leave the swedespeed and VCOA sticker on the back window. I'll let the dealer do with them what they want.

Soledoc--since we all know you are a fanatic for blue--why don't you see when Takspeed is going to have their Blue R doorpins again. I got mine as an Xmas present from my kids and they look really nice with nordkap interior. Also Alan puts in a nice piece of plastic tubing to help with removing the OEM pins and putting in the new pins without scratching them.

I'll check on that and maybe he'll wip up a batch of blue pins for my new blue car. I think I remember you posted a pic of them and I liked the look.
