Hi all,
My driver's side headlight went out and took it to the dealer and was told the ballast went out on my 2004 XC90 T5.
Seems odd the ballast went out after 5 years. Anyone else had to replace theirs? I was quoted $500 to replace the ballast.
Anyone have a DIY on replacing the bulb and the ballast? Thinking I should try to replace the bulb myself and maybe the ballast also if needed.
Also, anyone know any trusted shops in the Bay Area?
Thanks!

Re: Replacing Ballast for Xenon Headlight (rst1121)

Ballasts are simple. You can pick them up on eBay, used, for less than half of that price. They tend to last too, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy used.

Sorry, I can't recall if you need to connect the car to the mothership after replacing the ballast, but I think you do. Do you have a friendly, independent Volvo specialist near you that would be willing to reprogram the car?
The ballast itself is just four or 6 Torx screws to remove and replace it. The headlights are easy to snap out of the car. Just go slow so you don't break tabs.
