Replaced tires.. VERY loud ... help!!!

OK, I recently sold my winter tires, and put on the 18 x 8.5 45 offset Evolve R5 w/ 225 40 18 Dunlop sport sigs.. almost immediately I notice a lot more noise . didn't do this when they were new. well today I put on 17 x 7.5 Sadrias 45 offset w/ 215 50 17 same tire new! but the noise is extreme. The Dunlops with the 18s weren't this loud new at all , so I'm guessing I've got an axle .. some other issue but wow the timing is bad. going to the tire shop as well as Volvo monday...

just wondering anyone have issues with 215 50 17s on a 17 x 7.5 45 mm?

thanks

it could be the tires. or a wheel bearing...

i know for a fact, once i put s60R rims on the s40, when i had the car on the jack, i hand tightened the lugs, and forgot to tighten them up with the socket, and alottttt of noise... check your lugs!!! you might have a rim on there thats not straight on

thanks ... I checked that as well as a posible forgotten hubcentric ring for a wheel that doesn't require it.

I noticed noise goes down when I turn right even slightly

I experienced this with 17" Evolve R5'S.

Put my stock sculptors back on - Noise gone

Tried the R5's on another V50 - No noise !!!!!

The answer - bad front alignment - The wider tire and offset difference was enough to cause the noise.

Took the car in to get the alignment done and apparently they could not allign the car correctly with the R5's - With the sculptors - No problem.

I want a set of 18" pegs but fear rhe same will happen ......

pegs dont make noise on s40's...

had them on for a year.

only downside with pegs, on potholes they bounce up and hit the wheel well. but avoiding potholes, ur good to go

Aparently the way my car is aligned - The wider tire and offset difference on the pegs will result in a similar noise to the Evolve R5's

I may still try it

Re: Replaced tires.. VERY loud ... help!!! (samkell)

thanks for all your answers..... but here's the confusing part.

The 18 x 8.5 45mm R5s have 225 40 18s on them

( the Sadrias don't require hubcentric rings , the R5s do)

the Sadrias are 17 x 7.5 and have 215 50 17s . These are louder but are about 1" narrower than my R5 set up. both tires are Dunlop Sport sig

why is my Sadria set up NEW louder than the R5.

Re: Replaced tires.. VERY loud ... help!!! (V50_T5)

V50_T5, sounds like a front wheel bearing to me. I had the same issue last summer and thought the road noise was from my tires. Replaced the tires and still had the noise (noise varied with left right turns also), so I took my car into the dealer to check the wheel bearings. Right front bearing was worn out, had it replaced and the noise was gone...as an expensive bonus, I also have new tires!

thanks everyone!!!!! It is indeed the wheel bearings, I also have a shakey steering wheel while braking so I'm getting front rotors / pads replaced. I also sneeze a lot so that cabin filter is also getting replaced next Tuesday!

Nothing Like High Quality Wheels ?

Look Dude , Your Rims could be all out by .040 which eventually shows Up with Cupped Tires or You just didn't Rotate the Tires and have Check them Checked Each Time they are Rotated for balancing !

Balancing Issues Happen , which I Suspect the Latter . ( Cupped Tires )

Are Very Loud , of Course You could always use them for ( Smoke Outs )

for 12 min. Non stop that might make them Round Again .

But of Course that would Mean that You would Have to - Yes That's Right - Rotate those Tires !

Smoking the Tires -
