So for the fourth time I have replaced the drive belt on my D5 2009 XC70, I know they are prone to breakage but this is ridiculous, the belt drives the alternator and power steering pump. My question is about the driver adjustable steering force, it has 3 settings, do those settings load the power steering pump any differently? I'm thinking that maybe I can reduce the load on the belt with the most suitable setting. I have checked the pulleys and idler many times, they rotate smoothly without excessive drag.

Thanks, i hadn't thought of the roller clutch on the alternator pulley. Will check that out.
