I've had similar success with my 2014 S60 T5 AWD. When I bought it at 70k miles, it went through a quart in 2k miles. I went to a 2500 mile oil change interval with 5w40 synthetic. I have now done four treatments with LiquiMoly proline engine flush (two at 2500 miles and two at 5000 miles) Now, over 15000 miles later, my oil consumption has been reduced by more than half. I will be interested to see what it is at the end of this 2500 mile interval.

Curious how much of that reduction in consumption is the flush, vs the viscoplus. Cuz I’ve done 4 flushes on 2500 mi interval and still have the same 1Q/1k mi consumption. What mileage are you doing this at?
If you follow the BITOG site at all, they reference an engine cleaner made by HPL that may provide results with fouled oil control rings.

LiquiMoly and short OCI seems to be working for me, but it's taken 4 or 5 treatments to really start seeing results. It wasn't until this last treatment (less than 150 miles ago) that I really started to notice a visible reduction in varnish on the cams, etc. Haven't measured it but my butt dyno and ear tells me the car is running better and making slightly more power. So possibly a small increase in compression as the rings free up.

If the oil consumption got real bad I'd try a piston soak with Berrymans B12 chemtool.

I can't say I've had any more problems with my 2014 S60 than I have with any other used Volvo. They've all needed something. Even my "reliable" high mileage 240s needed fairly constant work to remain road worthy and trouble free.

The only thing I really wish Volvo had improved on the P3 cars is the rust resistance of bolt on subframes and suspension parts. Also I wish the paint on the P3 cars had the durability of the older cars, but I understand the move to softer waterborne paints for environmental reasons.

Interesting. I haven't tried BG although it has a good reputation in the shop. At its worst, my car burned a full quart in about 1200 to 1500 miles. I'm on my 4th LiquiMoly flush/2,500mile oil change interval and today, 1860 miles into the oil change interval, I have used half a quart. And that is with over 1000 miles of high speed driving, which tends to burn more. So I think you can make progress if you keep at it.

Seems to be the deciding factor at least for me… or maybe a cumulative effect although it didn’t seem that way. Holding 4k maybe helped get rid of some of the loosened junk… can’t say. It’s holding up though -

@117,606 mi 3/10/23 oil dropped 3 crosshatches, ⅗ qt consumed in 976 mi. (Cold read)

all others except for last and the below min reads were done level, at temp, after 15 min. I would’ve had the last one done regularly but it’s 2 am and I got a flight today, so it’ll have to wait. Will get it to near min before adding to see what it comes out to.

I would’ve preferred only adding in that way but I’m not the only driver, so I have to keep it at max constantly since she doesn’t check or add it.. is when it went below min. Hopefully I can reduce it further, will have to see. Was your reduction pretty gradual or sudden?
Was it a new engine at 60k?
