I don't know if Robert Bentley Publishers makes a "Bentley Manual" for your car or not. I have owned several of these for several cars I've owned, including my 240 and I find they make some of the more comprehensive manuals out there.
The last time I checked, there wasn't a Bentley manual available for the 850 series. You're right George about them being comprehensive. The one I've been using is the Haynes book. Not as good as a Bentley manual, but not too shabby.
/Scott

The Haynes manual will cover all of the systems in the car, but not in great detail. I really like the 240 Haynes because it's simple and good for a quick answer. The Bentley manuals are real service manuals that give great detail, and the specs and images are much better.

Stay away from Chilton's manuals as they are poorly documented, have very few worthwhile diagrams and even fewer worthwhile photographs. But they are great for getting a campfire going.
-he who stacks pork

Unfortunately there is no service manual for the 850 series Volvo, unless of course you try stealing one from your local Volvo dealer, but chances are they don't even have one themselves. Haynes is about the only thing out there for the 850 series, that and support forums like these. I would know I've spent countless hours searching for a 850 series service manual... none to be found so far.
