After removing the wiring harness for the driver side front turn signal I cannot remove the bulb or remaining assembly. Is there some trick to this that I don't know about? I've tried turning and pulling out on the assembly with no luck.
Alright, I'm about to give up on the situation here and just take it to the dealership. I get the bulb failure error with left turn signal only. It is the front signal where the problem is, i've replaced the bulb with 2 bulbs identical to the one I took out but it is noticeably not as bright as the right side bulb even though they are the same bulbs. The light blinks dim and fast as if there is a bulb that is out. Anyone experienced this?
Yea, Ive had the same problem also but with the right turn signal (passenger side). I replaced the bulb and still get the warning and the dimness. When I had the bulb out I noticed that the piece that the bulb actually goes into (I dont know what its called) was pretty coroded so next time I make it by the dealership Im getting a new one to see if that will fix it. That should be in the next couple of days since my car is in getting the transmission replaced. Anyway, once Ive tried it Ill let you know if that fixes it or not.
mine aren't even dirty in the least
another thing I did notice, the owners manual calls for a different bulb than what was actually in the car, the one in the owners manual doesn't even fit the socket the bulb goes in. The ones that are in the car are originals so they must have not put in what they spec'd. But they've worked this long and the passenger side is still burning bright, just have a dim situation on the driver side.
Well, I just talked to the dealership. I had told them to fix the turn signal for me while they had the car in for the transmission swap. Anyway, they told me that the bulb socket was not the problem, they said that there is a switch inside the steering column that is bad and that it would be $190 to fix it. The part by itself is $120. Gotta love Volvo, who else would try to charge you $200 bucks to fix a friggin turn signal?
I saw that post when it was first created. I don't believe this is my problem as only the front signal burns dim. All bulbs flash, they just flash fast and the front bulb flashes at probably 1/3 the brightness of the same bulb on right side.
Well , I just tried cleaning the contacts off and it didnt work for me, but I still think its a viable fix for other people.
Maynard, you should try this, the contact points for the left and right turn signals are right next to each other, thats why we are having trouble with the right and you with the left. Anyway, I added some more pics to taverN's post.
