At the risk of pointing out the obvious, it's starting to get pretty cold out there in the morning and at night.
I favour starting my vehicle and letting it idle (warm-up) for a while prior to departing. Most people I know do the same.
My question is, does anyone have any experince with or information on remote starters for Volvos?
It would be a great convenience to just sort of point a gizmo out the window a few minutes before leaving the office (or house) and waltzing into a nice warm car, ready to launch.
Anyone with thoughts, experiences, opinions, photos, part numbers ...
Thanks.
My thoughts, if I had the money, people would found out I have the money, and I would stick my hand out the window and when I get to the car, it's not there.

Re: Remote Starters; what are your thoughts? (Gotballs)

Thanks for the replies so far.
The thought of GrandTheftAuto had occured to me as well, though the possibility at say, 05:30AM seems a bit slim...not impossible, just remote (pardon the pun).
Spencer, are you going through Volvo for your remote feature?
I wonder if Volvo would install (or even offer) something like this.
It seems reasonable, considering their catering to a kind of premium clientel who like to drive in all sorts of conditions.
Just a thought.

volvo does not and probably would not. remote starters have in the past interfered with the immobilizer feature in the ignition. i have seen more than one customer pay for repairs to the ignition system after installing one of these. it would not be under warranty. not trying to scare you....

Going to the dealership never crossed my mind. It would prob be a thousand over cost. I went to good guys, and they quoted me around 400 bucks for their top of the line alarm/remote start thats with install. I believe it included insurance for your car up to 1000 bucks, and a function that allowed you to roll up your windows with your alarm remote lol. Since I have moved into I high theft area, I thought it would wise to install a better alarm.
~SPENCER~

How are you getting past the immobilizer? Are you placing a key near the ignition to bypass it?
Pat

Re: Remote Starters; what are your thoughts? (Iceman)

Im from Mi, So it gets pretty cold here in the winters. I called my dealership to ask them if its okay if I install it and they siad that it wasnt in my best interests. It messes up the electronics in the car and they wont warrentee it. Plus a remote start voids alot of warrentee in your car. So if something goes wrong, they can easily blame it on the starter and not fix it for you under the warentee. But if anyone has one that works well let us know cuase im also sick of warming up my car in the morning.
WyZ Guy

Sounds like a great thing for a 740 like mine that is out of warranty.
-Poritz

The heater is instantly warm when you pull out, plus the engine will be warm when you start and minimize friction damage from the cold start. I could've sworn there was even a Volvo Accessory for the engine block heater, but I can't find it on line right now. But that's a sure way to avoid having to interfere with the ignition interlock fuction.
Best of luck.
