I searched around a bit and can't find any info on this.

Is it even possible with our immobilizer system?

I heard from someone our immobilizer runs on fiber optics? Is this true?

Just had one installed on the wifes. Key goes in a box under the dash, so imobilizer still works. It uses the boxed key only for the remote start. Works quite well. I looked over the install after it was done, it was all nice and neat. Had future shop do it. $360 tax in canadian.

Re: (BellevilleV70)

spoke to a buddy who is an installer at Best Buy.. he just did my brother's civic SI so I figured I'd ask him about my R. he didnt say that it couldn't be done, just basically the wiring is gonna be a bitch and it would be trial and error.. can i get some confirmation from some of you who have had it done, that it CAN be done and is not next to impossible?

Trial and error is a HUGE red flag. There's NO way i'd let anyone trial and error on my car. Volvo electronics are VERY sensitive and if they're picking and probing there's a very high likelyhood that they'll either fry something, trigger codes that YOU will be responsible for clearing or just plain mess it all up.

Honda's vs. Volvo electronics are like apples to oranges.

My auto start also replaced the factory alarm as well. My setup was on my 04 GT R. 500.00 for the hardware. Another 450.00 in labor, trouble shooting that quirky car. 7 hours plus for the install. Nice feature but very $$$$$$. Would I do it again? YES.....I live in Minnesota. Mash

Well I looked at the install in the wifes to make sure none of it was hacked......actually didn't look as diffficult as I thought. I would phone a few places and get quotes.....only took 3 hrs on this one, can't think a newer one would be that much worse. I have done tons of them on Chryslers, but didn't feel like laying under the dash doing one I wasn't familier with........looking at it now, I would try it.
2 other places I did price, were over twice the price.
Can't see why it would be trial and error either, I talked to the guys for a bit to see how good they seemed before I desided to get it done, and he showed me the website they use, punch in the car, and it gives detailed pics and locations for tapping into the wiring/etc. Wasn't a future shop site, was a accessory site of some sort. Try future shop.........my best buy here wouldn't even do it, which makes no sense as they own future shop!
