My family owned a 1980 245 diesel for 21 years (it would have been longer, but I took care of that car quite nicely ) And I have some questions.
1) Is the engine in the 760 diesels the same VW engine (minus the turbo which I know was not on the 240 diesels)
2)What is the reliablity of the diesel engine. I know the 240 diesel was prone to siezing unexpectedly. My family's made it to 201K before its life was ended, but I heard most Diesels died before that.
3)Is the tranny better on the 760 diesel. We had the 3-speed auto in the 240, and the torque from the diesel ripped it to shreds. Luckily a repair man forced a life time warranty on my dad (literally forced, my dad didnt want it) which we made that guy eat, as every year we had to bring the car in cause the tranny was torn apart. Given that car was an auto, a manual may have survived better.
Thanks for your help.
