This review speaks to the design brilliance of the 90 products, specifically the S90.

I'm also glad they're calling Volvo out on the half-baked AAOS.

Thanks for sharing - kind of a bummer on the "lows" cited in the story.

Hard to believe the B6 is that much slower than the T6. I guess Volvo's thought is that people buying this car will think it's adequate.

0.6 seconds from zero... I'm not sure how that shows up in the real world. The B6 has more than enough power to do the things it needs to do. I've never towed anything but in every day driving, I would easily trade 50Hp for better gas mileage.

LOL, a lot of the time when me and my wife go out and someone else is with us (adult daughter, sister in law...) they will sit in the back, and I drive up front. I sit in the "Driver's Seat", my wife sits in the "Owner's Seat".
We get a kick out of controlling the front passenger seat from the rear or driver's controls as well.
Then she will raise all 3 "Peasant Blockers" for the effect.
The car itself drew me to it, but the back seat sold me on it, even though most of the time it is empty. I drove it from PA to FL and back in January, and you can put a carry-on luggage, on the rear floor behind me driving, and I'm 6' 240lb.

I think Volvo is losing an understanding of its market share, at least here in USA. Sure, we value luxury, but the power / sportiness, etc that we shied a little bit away from when choosing Volvo over BMW or Audi was always adequate enough. Take too much off of that and they're going to lose a fairly large portion of their base to people simply switching to those more sporty, faster alternatives, who just so happen to also offer the luxury that its user base desires.

My "other" car is a XC90 T5. I'm not sure of the weight difference between the XC90 and V90 but the 250Hp T5 is more than adequate for me. Again, the most it is ever loaded is 2 adults, 2 kids, plus some luggage.

And as for mileage, I don't know the differences between the S90 and V90, but the I get better mileage in the XC90.

(Prior to getting the V90, I daily drove a 2018 Panamera 4S. Significantly more powerful but for daily driving, the differences due to power are relatively minor.)

Having owned a 2017 S550, 2017 s90, 2014 Audi A8 4.0 and my current V90. I liked the Audi a great deal, 450hp, handled pretty good.
The Mercedes was fast, a bit disconnected from the road, incredibly comfortable with the executive rear seating. Frightfully expensive to maintain and insure.
The 2017 S90 was a great car, I just couldn’t get used to the four cylinder noise and power delivery so I traded it on the S class. Now back in a Volvo V90CC. I’ve gotten use to the engine, love the looks and the utility, it handles great with new rubber, 275/40/19 on 19x9 wheels. I actually prefer the seats to the Mercedes up front. Mileage isn’t very good. Black over amber. It is affordable compared to a 118k Mercedes.

The lack of a power operated column was intentional. For safety reasons in an accident to extricate the driver the column can be moved without the power on. As far as the noise goes, I’m hearing impaired anyways, I don’t notice a thing.

I liked the power adjustable steering column that I had in one or two other cars, but since it is once and done for me it is far from a major issue. My setting in my V90CC and my wife's in hers are almost identical; going between the two cars does not require changing the position of the steering wheel. Having two saved settings for seats and mirrors makes that a non-issue as well. I do wish there was a button to fold the mirrors as I approach my mailbox as on the one Lexus I had, but, again, it's not a deal breaker.

For me, the V90CC offered the best compromise of ride/handling/performance/styling (interior and exterior)/comfort/noise/utility/value of any of the competitors, by which I mean the E Class and the top of the line Outback. Are you aware of any other wagons available in the USA?

In the categories I mentioned above, I think the V90CC is at the head of the class in styling, comfort and value.

On the Mercedes S550 the column retracts and the seat moves back slightly when you put car in park. Also opening the door when car is in drive puts it into park. Honestly though I don’t miss the Mercedes, too expensive in many ways, insurance, maintenance and depreciation. I am more than happy with my V90, plus the utility is fantastic with roof box and wagon body

I own a S90 2018. I love the car but hardly drive it; I have an old 2002 Chevy Trailblazer beater to drive around most of the time. A couple of my biggest issues with my S90 is the road noise which I may be able to lower by going with the smaller 18" rims and Michelin tires instead of the Pirreli that it came with. The voice in the Sensus infotainment sounds like a robot compared to what I've heard in other lower cost vehicles. Yes, the car is large, but that's my preference, I'm not a large guy but I don't like squeezing into small cars either. Mine's a T5 and that's enough power for my driving; and no I don't drive at 40mph in a 65mph area. NONE of these cars were designed as race cars so when some people talk about some performance issues I really wonder about their driving habits or preferences. On a fairly long highway drive with minimal traffic I can easily get 34mpg. So for driving my wife around and the occasional kids and grand kids in the back seat, I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah, what's up with that, it is horrible, I wonder if any of the Scandanavian languages sound natural or not.
Since you mentioned it, that is probably my biggest "what the heck is up with that" of the whole car.

It's not a Scandinavian accent. Swedish is a little bit sing-song; Standard Norwegian a little bit of a sharp edge, or better said, crispness; Danish also has that Germanic crispness, but with the occasional "swallowing" of vowels as in neighboring Holland's Dutch.
No, I meant, if you choose Swedish, will it sound natural. Like did they put more time into the "native" voice market. And leave the rest of the world with computerize sounding.

I have the Pirelli P Zero All Season that came with the car. I'm in Phoenix so all weather tires are just fine. I heard that Michelin in that same size would be a bit quieter ride. I have Michellins on my beater car and they are quiet but that's an SUV with much larger tires and larger sidewall.

I love my 2019 T5 S90, almost perfect car. 2 main issues with this car: terrible gas mileage with mini gas tank(17-18mpg and 220-250 range) and bad brakes. I had a s60 as rental and with the mild hybrid system and new volvo platform, I think both problem have been solved. You get with this mild hybrid engine significantly better mpg and with the regenerating braking system all the old brake issues are over. So great job Volvo!!
