I have a used spoiler I would like to install on my S70. How critical is the gasket/tape that is applied to the spoiler? This tape doesn't hold the spoiler on, does it? Am I right to assume is it just there to reduce vibration? Would I be fine using 3M double sided foam tape or must I use the dealer stuff? I'm assuming the clips/screws are what really hold it on, but I don't want it flying off if I use the wrong tape. I work when the dealer is open so that option is inconvenient.

Re: Rear spoiler install - gasket/tape required? (zpmada)

i believe there are little rubber gaskets. when i ordered my spoiler for the T5 i ordered an OEM one and i think it came with them. then i had it professionally painted and mounted. They will drill holes in your trunk lid and essentially lag bolt it down and the gaskets will seal it from water. thats why you need the gaskets. My car actually came with one from the factory but the buyer didnt want it so they swapped the spoiler'ed trunk lid for a non spoiler one.
Just be easy on it after dont use it to lift the trunk or slam it. i flip when people do it

I'm pretty sure the dealer stuff IS 3M foam tape, and if it's not, 3M foam tape is better anyway.
I bought a huge roll of car-specific 3M body molding tape from an auto body supply store, the stuff is amazing. I recommend it.

Yea 3M will work just fine, as for drilling holes in your trunk lid?? And Lag bolting it down? Who did that!! My wing attaches with the sticky tape and two little brackets on each side. The brackets clip over the edge of the trunk lid. So no damage to the trunk and you are not stealing that wing without breaking it

Re: Rear spoiler install - gasket/tape required? (Chilled Man)

mine was aftermarket only because the original owner didnt want a spoiler so he had the trunk lids swapped. Theres 2 access holes in the bottom of the lid if you remove the carpet stuff and thats how mine is plugged in. idk if is LAG bolted down like i said but thats the only way i could explain it. but i do believe they had to drill my trunk lid to put it on. Maybe im wrong but i think im right in my case. if not and mine is magically bolted down then maybe i have the super man edition that will withstand people funkin with it idk

yeah yours has to be aftermarket one since the volvo one bolts onto the side not through the trunk
