Has anyone had problems with their DVD system working intermittently?

Our kids tell us on many occasions that the player either won't turn on or it will only show blue screen with DVD already in player.

We have changed the batteries in the remote several times already and have only owned the vehicle for one year. DVDs also seem to skip more than they should. We never had this many problems with our Honda Odyssey's DVD player.

Re: Rear entertainment system problems (FirstVolvoV8)

Which system do you have.... There are 2 of them... We have a 2005 with the head rest screens, no issues other than on real long trips it has a tendancy to get pretty warm with mutiple DVD's.

What has the dealer said?
What kind of DVD's? (orignal or copies)
Maybe the kids have scratched or the DVD's are dirty.

Need a few more specifics

You may have already checked this but occasionaly my son hits the wrong button and puts the RSE in some other mode, such as turns one screen off, while leaving one on or goes to to media mode, etc. I am not for sure about the names of the different modes but I suggest playing around with it to see if you can get it back to the correct mode. Clear as mud?

Re: (C130)

We have the dual headrest screen model. It apparently now does not work at all. I tried changing the batteries in the remote to eliminate that issue and I can't get the system to turn on at all and I can't get the DVD currently in player to eject using buttons on center console. My son does use the screens on occasion to play his Nintendo system so he is aware of how to switch from DVD player to alternate player. Could possibly be an issue with remote only since I don't think the system can be turned on using the console buttons. My manual indicates the two left buttons on console (one of which I would think would be the power button) are not in use.

I already have an email in to the dealer to this and potential wheel bearing problem checked out.

Not turning on and the blue screen might be related to a faulty remote. The blue screen is when the RSE is powered up and the play button is not pressed.

The skipping could be the DVD media itself, i.e. scratched, dirty, etc. Had one of the kids' movies skipping and stuttering, so I burned a new disc and that played fine.
