Hello,

I have a 06 S60 base model with 220,000 miles on it. I have been noticing an "Shhhh Shhh Shhh" noise that changes with the speed of the car. I can only hear with the windows down and next to a wall or something to bounce the sound back. I can only hear it at low speeds till the normal road noise cancels out the noise. The breaks seem to work fine and the E-break works fine as well. It sounds like it is coming from the driver's side back tire.

Do you have any hints I should look for when I check this out?

Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like one of your brake calipers is on its way out. You definitely got your money's worth out of them at that mileage.

Either that or wheel bearing.

I've had a small rust lip build up on the rotors and rub on the caliper bracket or on the dust shield.

I'd first make sure it's not the first shield rubbing anything during a full wheel rotation.

If it is his caliper, it's more than just re-lubing his slide pins, and rather needs a piston rebuild, correct? Out of it just better to get a new or rebuilt caliper?
