Hi

New to the forum and at a dead end.

I'm in the last stages of putting a '68 1800 back together. I was careless when I took the rear axle apart to replace the seals and brakes and I didn't make any note of the location or specifics of the shims that came off at the ends. There are a number of them in different thicknesses ranging from very thin- (.005 maybe) to more like .020. I have tried to find any information in the old shop manual reprints, Haynes, etc, and haven't found anything. Not much online other than some discussion about whether to put them all on one side or not?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a '66 1800S and I had mine apart when refurbishing. All of my shims were on the driver's side. I think they just added shims on one side at the factory until they got the axle end play out. I put mine back together the same way they came off and everything seems to be OK. I don't think the shim order makes any difference.
