Re: Read this write up on the R... This dude has a real chip on his shoulder (zigger)

I could be wrong, but I believe that is Johann from this board...

Johann has shared this on many threads over here as well. If I remember correctly, this was primarily a 2004 issue which was tweaked a bit with the faster procesors in 2005.

so what the hell.. Is all this true? Is ths R a fake performance sedan?why would volvo mislead people like this?

Because the engine performance numbers were "bench" numbers and not actual installed tested figures. There's loss when connected to the drivetrain, etc.

I remember at least 2 cases when significant discount service coupons or full refunds were oferred by Ford to Cobra and (help me, I think it was Mazda RX8) owners in similar cases when HP and TQ numbers were lower than advertised. Ford ownes Volvo as well...
We all bought this car for alleged performance ##. Otherwise, I'd buy Lincoln, it also has pretty cabin
.
I'd gladly give back mine...
Funny, but when I just got mine and immediately felt a difference between "brochure" and reality, someone here was trying to convince me that claimed 300TQ comes at 1950 RPM...

No, he didn't but this is all true.
These cars do NOT make 300 HP in any way, shape or form, (unless modded
).

Than neither does the Wrx Sti. I had one (I can post dyno sheets) I dynod the car bone stock at the same shop that dynof my R and It dynod at 232 whp (so did every other sti there 230-235whp) and they are rated 300 Hp my R dynod 230 whp (I posted the dyno sheets of before and after the bsr chip) so I think they do have 300 Hp

im sure that under ideal testing conditions, volvo managed to put 300hp to the flywheel otherwise they would have a rather hefty lawsuit on their hands.

Re: (JRL)

who cares how much power it makes? My R completed the quarter mile in 13.7 perfectly stock, on normal 93 gas at 70 degrees (by the way, I doubt too many cars that run a 6.6 0-62 time run 13's, especially with close ratio trannies, but what do I know). And I don't need any dyno tests to tell me that. The one thing I take from this is that these cars, like the M3, diverge significantly from the factory. One R may not be a quick as another... in fact, given that info, MUST not be. And I did not record the fastest quarter mile time for a stock R on this site. I don't care if my car is making 300hp, 285hp, or 170hp. Am I the only one that realizes that crank horsepower is an arbitrary statistic. Take the Elise. You think an Elise owner is gonna cry if you tell him his car makes s*** for horsepower? Nope, he'll just laugh, and make you look stupid at the next light. Performance, people! That is what matters. You are either pleased with the performance, or you are not. Sorry if you got a slow one, but my stock R "matched the performance" of a particular german sports sedan housing a V8 that produces a projected 40 more horsepower than my car. Now, your telling me its actually a 55 horsepower gap? Boy oh boy, that's great news. Maybe that is just a testament to the fact that the R is that much more ingenius of an auto than the S4 to match its performance with such a hp defacit. phhhhhh.

WELL said! I got a factory freek my freinds tell me. With a chip alone I walk the S4 and the M3 I pull on slightly. Posted video but they got deleted..anyways when I was bone stock I wasn't that far behind the M3 and when my buddy got his 06 s4 I had already installed my Bsr kit

Most cars don't (unless under reported on purpose). Still, things are a lot more accurate compared to the ratings used in the 60's.
