2000 was the most model-intensive year in Volvo Cars' history. During last year, three new cars were introduced - the Volvo V70, Volvo Cross Country and Volvo S60 - plus Phase II of the Volvo S40 and V40. This means that the oldest car in the model programme is the Volvo C70 Coupé, which was introduced in 1997.

In May 1998, Volvo Cars presented the Volvo S80 - the first model on the so-called large platform. A top-class safety level combined with a range of other new features has made the Volvo S80 one of the most competitive alternatives in the large saloon segment. The engine programme is based on two different concepts - six-cylinder engines for total comfort and performance and five-cylinder versions for fuel economy and smooth driving. Three new models in 2000 Last year, the large platform was extended to include three new models.

The new Volvo V70 is based on the same platform as the Volvo S80 saloon model. However, the two models have been developed completely individually. To put it another way, the Volvo V70 has not been derived from a saloon model. It is a new and unique estate - an improvement on the previous Volvo V70 in virtually every area.
The new AWD Volvo Cross Country is a highly attractive alternative for customers who want a truly flexible car with the right attitude. It is capable of travelling on virtually every surface, but it is also safe, convenient, comfortable and fun to drive. Volvo's first Cross Country was introduced in 1997 and became an immediate success. This new model is better than its predecessor in practically every area.

The Volvo S60 is extremely reminiscent of a coupé, but it is in actual fact a spacious saloon. The powerful, lively design gives the car a pronounced sporty look. At the same time, the car is spacious and practical enough to function effectively with five passengers. Like the S80, V70 and Cross Country models, the Volvo S60 has been developed and built on Volvo's large platform, but it is also smaller than the other three in purely physical terms and has a different, sportier attitude.

At the beginning of 2000, Phase II of the Volvo S40 and Volvo V40 was introduced - a change that is far more comprehensive than one might think at first glance. These cars are more comfortable, they are quieter, their engines have been upgraded and they are also more powerful.

Volvo C70 - Coupé and Convertible
The model programme also includes the Volvo C70 models, which have made an important contribution to the marked change that has taken place in the brand image. The C70 Coupé and Convertible have come to symbolise a new, sportier Volvo look.
In both the C70 Coupé and Convertible, the driving experience is the most striking characteristic. In the case of the coupé, this is supplemented by the powerful image of sportiness and dynamism. The convertible is more readily associated with comfort and elegance.
