Last night coming back from Charlotte there was a heavy downpour, which doesn't bother the R one bit. Get almost home (about 45 mile drive) and this squeal starts from (seemingly) the right-rear direction from the drvier's seat. It linearly gets louder until even in the heavy rain/radio/AC, it's the loudest thing around. I quickly hit the hazards, slow down to about 15mph and limp 100 meters into the gas station. The loudness of the squeal is proportionate to speed of the vehicle. Inspecting the brakes everything looked fine. The pads are secure, caliper looks normal, no visible rotor damage on the outside. Waited about 45 minutes and drive home under hazards, slowly 15-25mph, and it did not squeal again, though it was still raining.
It's 60 miles back to University Volvo, I don't really know what to do here. The swedespeed discussions on this focus on the center resonator rubbing against the drive shaft?? I have an Evolve Sport Exhaust so don't know if I should still have this resonator, or not. Wouldn't the squeal sound like its coming from directly below me the resonator was at fault?
Help anyone? I need to know what to inspect before I drive again, even to the shop.
