My old volvo radio has died, or rather works intemittently. I suspect that since the radio is mounted directly above those heat ducts over time the electrical componets eventually fail. Any recommendations on where to get a volvo replacement radio that will fit in that spot with those oddball connections??

Re: Radio Replacement on 240DL 1986 (JTcapa)

hmm most places dont stock the old radios, but try the local bone yard, that way its just plug and play! otherwise i would just put in an aftermarket radio.. take less than half an hour. 240s are resonbly simple to install radios. if you are installing an aftermarket radio, rember that you have to get an adapter plater of some sort. because the volvo radios are 1 1/2 DIN sized. and they dont make aftermarket that size only single or double DIN.

michael.

I'd go aftermarket also and upgrade. If you definitely want to go OEM Volvo, you could always search Ebay or go to some local parts yards and try to find a used one. I have an '89 DL and the radio works fine, but I plan on upgrading it to a CD player relatively soon as they've gotten pretty cheap.

I could be up to buying your old Volvo radio with tape deck if you upgrade. My wife hates CD's and wants to play her old tapes, I'd just be happy with a working radio.

I'll probably order the radio next week. As busy as I am, it may be a couple of weeks until I have it done, but if you still need it, I'll send it to you. If not, watch ebay or check some local boneyards. You're probably likely to find one.

I would reccomend ordering from http://www.crutchfield.com I have ordered from there twice before and they have very nice service and knowledgable staff. They also give you the appropriate wiring harness and faceplate adapter with your order. They are very easy to install. Some may require a little soldering to join the two wiring harnesses. Very helpful people if you get in a jam while installing your radio.
-Poritz
