There are a lot of DIY fixes depending on what's wrong with your radio. What is it you're trying to fix and which radio do you have?

I concur with JRL...it's probably toast if you cracked the board. You might also check with your local dealer. They were running a "trade your old one in for a refurbished one" deal awhile back, but don't recall the price right now. Might be about the same as buying another from somewhere else. Other way to deal with this is to look in the for sale section here and eBay for a replacement, or it may be time for an upgrade and not particularly a Volvo radio. http://www.crutchfields.com are very friendly and if you can actually talk to a guy there they can recommend a different head unit that will work with your current speaker's ohms, etc.

How about a CD 6 button that doesn't operate the CD changer in the back on a SC-900? Just discovered it doesn't work. Yes...the cartridge is in the changer.

Re: (soledoc)

...in regards of a CD button - it might be just a matter of a busted switch (each button has a micro switch at the end anyway), but generally speaking - electronics and computer repairs are more expensive then getting a replacement unit nowadays. If you can't fix it yourself- it's not worth paying somebody to fix it. At the end you are getting same old unit, but more expensive. I'd just start looking for an alternative.
But, once again, it's just a "generalization", each case is unique.
I used to work for an electronic repair facility a while back, and they charged ~$50 just for an estimate, not to mention the actual job.

Re: (d_man)

since my 3 CD in dash changer isn't working either, I may just start looking for an SC-901.
