Are after market radiator beneficiary or worth anything? not intercoolers or oil coolers, i was reading and searching the forum for mods a lot of people seems to get FMIC's and aquamist but no mention of radiators just wondering if they would make a difference, cooler is better after all.

The radiators are fine. You can have an aluminum one made, but what for?

Does your car have problems with overheating? The S60 has pretty good heat management. If your car is overheating, I think you should take a look at your cooling system, and make sure it's good, and there are no leaks, and you've flushed the coolant. I'm just trying to figure out why you'd need an upgraded radiator, and you're probobly not pushing that much HP either...

I had a thread on making an aluminum one..... the benefits are negligble if anything. But the key is durability. The OEM' ones suck sorta.
Too bad.
Mine just really broke.
So will yours.
I'll bet your end tank will start to leak soon. Mine was a 04' at 57k miles when it started leaking. I'm doing a 6k mile road trip this summer, so in went an AFTERMARKET OEM replacement.
I figure...since most peoples radiator here starts to leak. Confirmed at my work .... Volvo dealer. Heres how the conversation went...
Me: Do you have a radiator for my 04' R?
Parts dept: Yup, we always have thoes, theyre used in a few cars and they break all the time.
Me: how?
Parts dept: They start to leak at the ends....
Me: Great.... talk to you later.
I just purchased an OEM fitment NISSENS radiator. Looks well made, a bit less fins but fitment is pretty good, with some minor tweaking.

Same problem here, slow leak at the bottom of the endtank. Tech said "wow, these usually get another 20k miles out of them."
At least you had a more honest dealer. Mine (at the end of a very long line of bs) told me they would knock 20% off the $1200 p&l, but that I had to get the one with premair, as the one without could not be installed. Thats why I don't go to that dealer anymore.
Where did you go for the nissens OEM? I googled one that was 150 bucks one time.

Re: Radiator Upgrades? (Rally_Junky)

I have never had an overheating issue and I live in Texas where 100 degree heat in the summer is not uncommon. I also travel a good deal with the car loaded. Seldom, if ever has the A/C switch been in the OFF position, and I just let the system manage itself. Bottom line is I don't think there is a capacity issue.
There is a reliability issue however. I have not had a failure in 125K miles, but several others have. It is a typical aluminum cross flow with plastic end tanks. Failure is at the tank interface. Another low tech failure point in a high tech car.

The nissens fit great.
The only issues, at the bottom where the fans slide INTO the radiator, it was way too tight and i broke one of the slides.

Re: (chinaonnitrous1)

Could you possibly provide a linky to said Nissen OEM replacement radiator? I am installing a Bell FMIC in July (hopefully) and I would think that it would be easiest to replace the rad then as opposed to later...
-Steve

It needed a top-up of coolant, but it had just come back from angle gear replacement, and i guessed for whatever reason they had left the cap loose (i have no idea why i thought this). That was at 40k miles. at 47k i had to top it up, and brought it in, but was 2 months out of warranty.
Mishimoto was the Aluminum one I was planning on getting made.
However...........
I wouldn't go for some of the cheaper brands, I've heard from a few parts supplier that they tend to have issues.
The Nissens is European made and was the only one recommended by my friends long time parts store owner guy person. It was only 20~40 bucks more than some of the comparable Chinese crap. It also has the transmission cooler built into the side of it.
