I believe the old thread about hard wiring a radar detector may have been deleted. I can't find it anywhere.

Which panel is it that hides the accessory connectors that were being discussed in that thread? The left-side passenger footwell panel? Which would be on the center console?

It's on the right side of the console, either the panel with the net or just behind. Splice into the lighter socket wiring there.

I tied mine into the 12v charger in the center console. The right side panel of the center console comes off super easy, and there is tons of room to access the wires on the 12v port.

Edit: exactly what ckon mentioned, didn't see that post.

I thought someone said there was an accessory connector which didn't require any splicing.

Correct. There is a fuse panel under the carpet on the passenger side floor. You can pull the carpet back and use one of those micro fuse tap things. Apparently, the carpet is a pain to pull back.

Here is a link to the fuse tap:

Edit: here is the link from the SPA XC90 forum showing a nice step by step install:

It's MUCH easier getting into the console to use a tap than under the carpet. The alternative of the console method was shown to me by the Volvo tech when I asked him how to get to the fuses.

Does anyone have pictures to share of their mounting location? I have a V1 that I will soon install; I used to use a Blendmount however that requires a mirror stem to attach to. There isn't enough room on my S90 for a stem mount...

Again, someone (a Volvo tech) said you don't even need to access the fuse box or use a tap. There were supposedly two pins in place (power and ground) for connecting an accessory.

Oh, no kidding, that's news to me.

Pretty sure this was referring to me since posted on the last I hard wire thread.

Two pin connector with two 14 gauge wires behind the center console carpeted cover on the passenger side. This is where I tapped for my V1.

It's not complicated people. Stop over thinking it.

It was you, thank you for the post.

Should have written it down. I guess all of that posters' threads were removed from the forums when he "left."

I'm not seeing it. What am I missing?

Also, is the blue path going to interfere with airbag deployment (hiding in the crea

In your first photo, the two wires to the left (black and blue with white tracer) should be for the 12v port. As for the pillar, remove the cover (one 8mm hex head bolt under the "Airbag" plastic cover. You can route the wiring behind the airbag.

Be sure to run your wire BEHIND the Inflatable Curtain. This is a huge safety warning from me to you.

Also, run the wire all the way to the roof liner, tuck it into the roof liner all the way to the rear view mirror, and then run it/tuck it inside the big black plastic bowl in front of your mirror. Attached the detector to your windshield just under the mirror.

Oh, so you do need to tap the cable! Thank you.

I assume blue+white is powered and black is to ground? I may just run to the back 12V outlet like I did in my V60 since that means I have the remote button. I have to see what that reach is like with this car.

I have a Escort and not a Valentine. They recommend positioning low on the windshield and I think that's what I'm going to do. That being the case, is the IC/going behind the pillar cover and airbag still a concern? Thanks again for all your help.

Just fyi, not to steal the thread......but I've got Redlines hardwired into both of our vehicles, and I tend to follow the radar detector forums a bit. There's a ton of stuff going on this week in the radar world, apparently Uniden just released two new detectors and they were designed with input from the gear heads who populate the forum. These forum guys did much of the real world testing also, and posted the tests on the forum to prove the performance. I've had escorts for 35 years, as have many of the testers in this forum. Looks like the new Uniden units outperform the Redline and have better filtering for blind side warnings as well as other things.....bottom line, they just leap frogged ahead of Escort. Historically Redline and V1 have been the performance leaders, but lots of criticism to Escort for sleeping on the job. If you'd like to read about it.....start here:

https://www.rdforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=146 and you can click on the Uniden or Escort sections....

I need to hardwire my wife's car....couple questions.....did you end up connecting into the fuse box on this install? Also, I've typically mounted my RedLine low on the windshield as you mention, and run the wire up to it exactly like you show in the picture a few posts up.....ie, in the crease along the top of the dashboard. Did you do this again, and if I do this is there an airbag concern??

I haven't actually installed mine. I couldn't find anyone where it didn't clutter up the interior view, plus I've been taking it easy and not driving that fast so I decided I may not need one anymore.

Still thinking about it, but didn't want to be rude and ignore your post even though I had no personal experience to contribute.

I had been thinking that I would use the rear cigarette lighter and run the cord to there since that gives me easy access to a mute button. I was going to use the crease along the dashboard and ignore the airbag concern. If it's tucked in, I really can't imagine a scenario where it puts anyone at any risk.

yes thanks for the feedback.....I've run the wire in the crease in many cars and didn't expect a safety issue, have always been careful regarding airbags, don't think I'm blocking any area where an airbag could blow out?? But, I told my wife Sunday evening oh no problem, just heading to your car to check out those fuses.....then of course I couldn't find the dang fuse box, I'm thinking like wtf???? Then I come back and find this thread, and now I'm somewhat dreading pulling that carpet back. Man what a strange way to hide a fuse box?? Even my last XC70 had a terrible location up under the glove box, really hard to see anything there. Guess I'll attack it again this weekend.

By the way, I do recall in a connected radar thread for the XC90, that someone said you could run a wire directly from the fuse box, up the inside of the dashboard area, straight to the space between the dash and the front window right where the detector is mounted. Is this really accessible and possible?

have to say, my TT was a piece of cake....the fuse box is located right inside the drivers door, easy vertical panel that snaps off and all fuses in easy access.
