Hi Guys, just wanted to see if anyone had installed a Radar detector in their XC40 and if they had any issues with all the sensors and technology in the car from the blind spot monitoring to the safety features? Not sure if these all use bands that might trigger a radar detector but just wanted to check if anyone had experience with it. Thanks in advance.

My Uniden R1 mounted on mirror with Blendmount for 18mths cause absolutely no issue. Of course, Volvo service said it would interfere, which I've heard from every car service I've had over the years. I have had a non-related issue pop up recently. On long trip thru rural roads I consistently got laser alerts, even though I was driving through wooded areas. Contacted Uniden and discovered that when using Android auto, it could cause false signals on laser. Something to do with signals when switching channels/songs/etc. (was using Pandora). They suggested using local mode to eliminate. Not sure I understand it, but guess it makes sense.

Awesome thanks for the info, just wanted to make sure it wasn't constant alerts or anything like that. I'm trying to decide between the Uniden R7 and the Escort Max 360c and since they're not cheap wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have issues. Feel better making the purchase with reading your experiences. Also thanks for the tip about Android Auto, hopefully I don't run into that but if I do I atleast have a solution already.

Chk online expert reviews (https://www.stealthveil.com/best-radar-detector-2019-reviews-top-rated-radar-detectors) ...Uniden R7, then R1/R3 best choices. Price difference of R7 vs R1/3 is big. Had a Redline before that I loved...R1 blows it away!

Any particular reason to steer clear of the Escort Max 360C? On the link you sent it's rated as the #1 choice . I like the fact that it can get updated over Wifi for speed cameras and firmware updates without moving it from the car. The R7 does appear the have the best range in some tests though.

no reason other than huge price difference. very pleased and impressed with my R1. also recommend blendmout...I actually worked with them to create correct version for our XC40 because of short mirror shaft and large noidule.

I will have to check out the blendmount, on my previous detector/car I rigged up a mount to the top left of the windshield to make it less visible to MPs when I drove on base but now that that part of life is over I can put it in a much better spot under the rearview

Lighter...hardwire I think is tough becuz my understanding is fuse block under driver's seat, and you need to mount the mute button somehow. Not surprised dealer wouldn't do it...you would have to take to a custom shop.
What I did was buy the hardwire kit, then cut and splice the "flat" wire onto the cigarette lighter "coiled" wire, replacing the coiled wire. Then I ran under headliner, tucked into door trim, under glove box and over to console. Was going to poke hole in back of console to snake plug through but decided to just stuff wire into side console carpet...it's out of the way and clean enough without cutting.

I will definitely take it to a shop and get it hardwired in. If it doesn't look clean almost OEM it bothers me especially considering you spend money on a nice new car, $500 on a radar detector, another $150 on a blend mount, to not have it perfectly blend. The extra cost to get that done is worth it to me.
