Whats up everyone. Well I have had my 2.4t for about a year now and I really dont like to rag on it that much. However, ever since day one my freind has been bugging me to race him since he has a V8 Lincoln LS. He blabs on and on about how fast he got it to go and what he beats. So the other night i was going to study and he was driving next to me and i got the sucker at a light. We punched at the light and it was great on both sides. I had him be the nose at first and he was hanging there right with me. Then after 20mph i started to pull away faster and faster. By the end of the race i had takin him by like almost a car length. LOL he pulls up next to me and his exact words were "Thats A Beast, What did u do to it??" lol. little does he know, my stock 2.4t nailed his V8 Lincoln. On top of that he got all this little stuff done to it like filters and plugs. However I put 18in chrome so that slows down my car a bit, however my Vo Vo has no problem.
WiseGuy

Re: Racing The LS V8 (WiseGuyVolvoS60)

Do you have Geartronic?
If so how fast are you going in your respective gears?
E.g. 1st gear up to 25mph
2nd gear up to 40 mph
I assume going to redline frequently is not a great idea.
My 2.4T AWD really PULLS in 3rd gear! I do get some hesitation/lag from 1st to 2nd, but if I hit 2nd to 3rd just right, the car feels like it is taking off.
Another question re: Geartronic. Is it dummy proof? Can you be going too fast and downshift and screw up the tranny? I've noticed on occassion that the brakes will kick in and slow the car down if I downshift at too high a speed. Is this really bad?

OK, that's interesting. He had a slight edge on power-to-weight ratio (67.5 hp/1000 lb for the LS, 62.7 hp/1000 lb for the 2.4T) over you, but it looks like the heavy boat just isn't made to drag race. Of course, a T5 would have royally spanked him (Power-to-weight ratio is 78.5 hp/1000 lb.) but you did us all proud, anyway. Congrats. Don't forget to rub it in that not only did you spank him with the middle-of-the-line S60, but you're also getting much better gas mileage!!! (21/28 vs. 17/23)
Yup, Lincoln & Ford have nothing in their lineup that remotely interests me . . . . .

If he had a T-5, I am sure that the LS would have jumped him but a few seconds later it [T-5] would have been all over him.
Yannis

Re: Racing The LS V8 (GrecianVolvo)

Great story. I think the 2.4T pulls away nicely but really takes off in 3rd gear like someone else said.
When leaving work to go for lunch I have to go over a big bridge right off the on ramp and you really need to crank it because the two right most lanes end. I had my boss in the car and I cranked it and we really started to pull away quickly and he noted that the car had a lot of power. This is a pretty good comment from somebody who drives a BMW 330ci 5 speed manual compared to my S60 AWD Geartronic.
Pat

Re: Racing The LS V8 (WiseGuyVolvoS60)

Well First off, I dont have gear tronic. I just brake torqued it a bit off the light and my car took it from there. This story is much more interesting. About a week ago my freind pulled up next to me in a 99 BMW 740. Keep in mind this kid is only 16. He pulls up next to me at a light thinking he will smoke me cuase he got a V8 and what not. So i jumped with him at the light and took him the whole distance. By the end of the race, he was looking in my back windsheld. And the best part about it, he admited to me that I smoked him and my car is faster. However, due to these wonderfull wins, I think im gonna quit while im ahead and retire my car from the racing life, LoL. I should start driving it normal cuase its not good for the car and stuff. But as we all know, there is gonna be a GTP or BMW thats gonna pull up next to me and I wont be able to back down.
WiseGuy

Re: Racing The LS V8 (GrecianVolvo)

the integra was stock, I don't know how I lost. As for the BMWs, I went into the wrong league, I need to stick to compacts or cars with at most 200hp. Because taking a stock s40 and going against these other cars is just dumb for me.
(Forgot to add this. I made an attempt against a V70R. Not the boldest of plans . Means my true record is 1-4.)
