How low would the seating be in an s40? My brother in law has a pair of Corbeau fx1 wide seats hell give me. But I worry about if it will be too low.

Thought i would ask as it's snowing now and I don't feel like going out to measure ;)

If he offers to give them, take it ;)
Dont know much about seats, all i know is that the ST seats fit with little modifications.

A few people on C30 Crew have fitted racing seats, but I also don't know how low they sit.

Where did you hear that ST seats fit with little modding? I've been considering ST seats for a while, but just don't want to get into a messy project.

I saw a picture on this forum not to long ago with the Recaro ST seats (so they said). I'll have to find it and upload it!

Oh, well that still doesn't mean little modification. ;)
We'd still need resistors for the seat air bags, unless the ST seats also have air bags that work with our plugs. Not sure if the heated seat feature would still work, power seats and swapping over sensors...
This might only be easiest if you used your stock frame and only replace the cussion / backrest with the ST portion.

If we're talking about MK3 Focus ST Recaros, don't bother... they really aren't comfortable. Not even in a sporty sort of way. Before we bought our MK3 I test drove a couple ST's, one with Recaros and one with the Ford "sport" seats and the latter was a much more comfortable car. I'm not a big guy really, and I happily fit in our OMP TRS racing seats in our rally car, but those Recaros are just uncomfortable for some reason. We ended up not even getting a ST because I just didn't like the car enough to justify the $6k premium.

YMMV of course, but in my mind half the reason I bought a Volvo was for the epic seats on long hauls. Replacing them with something less comfortable would be defeating the purpose of the car for me.

Depending on the style of mounting bracket for the raceseat you can adjust the height and angle of the seat. I'm running the RaceTech 4009w (w = fat man size) and we can just choose a different height slot on the mounting bracket to raise or lower the seat - it's pretty easy with just 4 cap screws.

I don't see why your brother in laws seats would be any different., depending on the mounting bracket.

you can use any seat as long as you have or can make a bracket....
wait...dont you young kids like low seats anyways!!!??? ;)

I didn't mind welding a bracket for both a civic and integra road race car I've had but I don't want to destroy the volvo doing it. I'll look to see how much and what size brackets I can find for the s40

#12 ·
when you make the bracket for the seats, you can add spacers to raise the height as needed.

on another the note, the current focus st offered in the US has airbags in the seats. now if anyone can get ONE seat, I'll try to make it work in my car and will do a write up.

short of making my own brackets by welding universal sliders mounts onto factory mounts, is there an after market mount/slider that bolts to volvo factory bolt locations?

#15 ·
You might want to pick up a set of scrap Volvo seat for the rails, then do all your welding on those so they'd be relatively easy to swap out for stock if you ever needed to.

its too cold for a pick and pull junk yard and i think i heard a forcast for 5" snow tomorrow? seats might have to wait. i'll see maybe on ebay?

#17 ·
My local junk yard has two manually adjustable seats for $175 each.

If that's a realistic idea for you, maybe we could work something out, as they were black leather and I wouldn't mind new seat skins.

#18 ·
i am 85% sure that the v60 seats will bolt right up with little to no modification in our cars.

I like this idea!!!

But do you still have srs and occupant weight codes still thrown?

A while back, somebody successfully fitted S60R seats in their P1. Does anyone know if '98 R seats would fit? They have significantly wider bolsters than our stock seats do.

#24 ·
don't you have a set? just take one out and try it.

Unhook it and look at it

I just picked up my Atacama 2004 seat covers and no professional shop will touch them for seam repairs. The leather after 12 yrs is dried up and hard that restitching will just cause it to tear. I am looking at the seat by Champs Club but can not find anything of black and orange. I find it strange but whatever. The V60 seat covers are a definite addition to the seats with the black shouldered leather. New ones must cost a pretty penny!! Anybody found an aftermarket product in orange?? Here is the link for the seats which would look not so out of place if to replace the original seats .

I really like the C30 R-design seats with the stitching in it.

Thread revival! Here's my car now...
Power/memory still works, no codes.

If you just want orange seat skins and don't care much about a racing bucket, you can get aftermarket skins.

Hey MNIWT, How did you bypass the seat airbags? Just unplugged them, or is there more to it? And the new seats are installed on the existing rails?

#32 ·
I rerouted the stock airbag, so it's still hooked up. If you unplug it, you'll get an immediate error that only a dealer can reset. Some have bypassed this with a resistor, but still have an "airbag service" message which pops up on initial startup. Not the "SRS failure" message.

The stock rails were carried over and I built a bracket for the seat to bolt to. It's a fixedback seat, so no angle adjustment, but forward/backward power memory still works and it sits at the same level as the stock seats do.
