I didn't even have a chance. Not the slightest chance in hell.
Last night I had to leave the office early and on my way home, I spotted a fast moving Legacy GT approaching from behind on the Merritt Pkwy heading North. As it got closer I noticed that it had a FMIC underneath the bumper (most Legacy's don't). As the car passed me, it made a raucous sound and when I looked over, I realized my friend was at the wheel. I honked the horn and we dropped the windows to chat.
All I can say is, holy mother of whatever God you pray to, that thing is so fast, its sick. We'd spoken a lot about what he was doing to the car and I'd seen pictures, but this was the first time I'd actually seen it since he started the work. When his turbo wasn't spooled up, I could definitely keep up. In fact, I could pull on him a bit. Keep in mind we weren't racing, but when I heard that thing hit boost, he just took off like I was standing still. No chip or Aquamist would have helped much if we were racing or trying to prove anything. Temps were in the 90s but nothing would have saved the R in a real head to head. I think he said that the car dyno'd at ~450hp (to the wheels) and I believe it.
All I can say is, if you're in Fairfield/Westchester County and come across a guy in a clearly modded Legacy GT with a big smile on his face on an empty road, just let him go. LOL
-Eric

Didn't you post pictures of this install a while back and say that he was trying to get it published in a Subaru magazine?
IIRC, the underhood looked like a WRC car. Or was it someone else's car?

It might have been fast but it's still just a Subaru and there's nothing sexy about that
Did you get to check out his so-called 'leather'? And how comfortable were his seats?
LTA
Not as nice as the R and certainly nowhere near as comfortable (no seats compare), but it also costs $10K less. And that $10K will create an M3/S4/R eating car with several thousand dollars left to blow on other projects.
-Eric

Re: R vs. Legacy GT (Sue Esponte)

I see at least 5-7K in the engine bay alone. Are there any more pics from the outside of the car? I would like to see the exterior. And yes......that kind of money into a turbo cars engine will yeild great gains. They are kind of bland looking cars. But WOW look under the hood.....I wonder if that guy takes his hood off and cruises around

Re: R vs. Legacy GT (Mash)

The exterior is 100% stock looking except: (1) the FMIC, which you can only see if you're a car geek looking for crap like that (like me); and (2) the massive dual exhaust out back. No huge wing, hood scoop, outageous rims or anything like that. It's a complete sleeper. I don't have any pics of the exterior but I'll try to remember to take some the next time we get together this summer.
-Eric

Re: R vs. Legacy GT (Mash)

nice. although, the Legacy never really peaked my interest. Too bland/boring looking.
450 to the wheels is impressive. we have yet to see any R come close to that.

Re: R vs. Legacy GT (phuz)

Yeah, and there's a V8 conversion for the Focus, too. That would be fun to take to the track or to an autocross just to see some jaws drop.
-Eric

He has coil overs, big brakes, the same EJ20 motor built to over 600awhp and a RA 6 speed tranny. Scoobies are a force to be reconed with in performance but not livable IMO from day to day. the legacy may be different though as they are nicer than most.
(I hope this makes sence after many 's)
