So I just recently traded in my '01 S60 T5 for an '04 S60R and needless to say I am PSYCHED!!! I do however have a question/slight concern about my new jewel. It seems that under hard acceleration, primarily in 2nd and 3rd gear it seems, you can absolutely feel when the turbo kicks in. However, once you get into the 3500 to 4500 RPM range, the car feels really jerky. Like the turbo keeps kicking in and out. Is this sort of a normal thing, or should I get this checked out? I didn't really notice when I test drove it.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom anyone can share.

If you are free, you should come to the VCOA National Volvo meet this Saturday in Ipswich, MA so you can meet fellow R owners and pick up a lot of good information related to the R's!
As to feedback relating to your issue, you should look into getting your ECU updated with the most recent software, and having your TCV replaced. These are the most common fixes, but if the problem still persists, we can discuss other options.

Re: (George @ ViVA)

Thanks for all of your advice guys. I realize I'm kind of a newb and I really appreciate it. I'm going to try to take the new ride in this weekend to get it checked out. I noticed a new weird thing on my way home from work today as well. In fourth gear the car just hits a wall at 5000 RPM and will not budge unless upshifted. Is this a symptom that goes along with all of my other issues, or an entirely different problem? Thanks again.
BTW '04 6 speed Dark grey w/blue leather.

IPD Turbo Control Valve was to answer to my turbo lag.
Pretty easy to install and a good first step before going for the full on ECU upgrade.

Re: (Thanatos)

So, I have an appointment to get it checked out tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's just a quick easy fix. Fingers crossed. I'll also try to free up some time to make it over to Ipswich on Saturday, sounds like a good time.

We've got a winner!!! In addition to needing the 90k mile service (ouch!) It needs a turbo control valve and an ECM update. Exactly how easy is the TCV to install? I'm a computer hardware tech by trade, so I know my way around tools, but I've never messed around with the guts of a car before.

Hey, you and I are in the same boat, same year and everything - congrats!
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=121599
TCV replacement could not be easier

Re: R turbo question... (jstro)

That is a very nice one my friend. I love the orange leather. My brother has an '05 with the orange, looks awesome. I've got a few more miles than you, but that's all I could find in my price range. I looked at the instructions for the TCV and they do look ridiculously easy, so I'm just gonna get the IPD and do it myself.

Boost holds and there's no more jerky accel.

Re: R turbo question... (mad matt)

I've read about that a lot since I started visiting here. I'm going to take it off today if it's not already been done. I ordered that exhaust safety cable from takspeed last night. I also ordered the IPD TCV.
On a side note: I want to say thanks to everyone who takes time to answer questions on here. I was a little hesitant to post at first, because most forums are filled with a bunch of holier than thou douche bags who don't want to help anyone to begin with, but that's not the case here and I appreciate it. So, thanks.
