I've owned enough cars to know that I've never had a car that attracts outside odors more than my R.<br>The other day at a red light I had a car next to me where the driver was smoking. The smell was so strong I almost thought my 5 year old had lite a Marlboro in the backseat.<br>Driving behind a diesel F250 was downright nasty.<p>Must be something in the air intake. Anyone else notice?

No IAQS in your R? <p>I ask, and then admit that I'm not that impressed with IAQS. One of the "selling points" of IAQS was that it senses smelly outdoor pollutants and blocks them from coming in. I still smell dieses fumes and other nasty odors when I'm driving...

With the IAQS being an added $125 for the '05, I decided that my little finger could push the button when needed <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>And, yes I do get to "enjoy" some bit of diesel smell before my digit finger gets to the button.<p>I guess we are just used to clean sweet air here in the Northwest <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0">

Mine works great...when I am not in Iraq! Seriously, I have never had a problem. Anyone know how it "senses?" Maybe the sensor is messed up?

I don't know whether the smell tapers off or IAQS kicks in, but it definitely does let in a bunch of odors either way. <p>My wife really notices it when she has a headache or migraine.<p>The P2 platform must have a very efficient outside air intake system. It'll suck air from a WAYS away.<br>

I would like the larger filter, but not the IAQS - it sucks. I prefer to keep the car on manual recirculate when I hit the "auto" button.

There are several different parts depending on year and model. I suggest going to a good Volvo parts counter for numbers. The IAQS filter is a kind of double-unit which is significantly thicker than the standard particulate one.<p>On your 04 V70R, the filter change should be easy, it's in a box under the kick panel above the passenger's feet. You drop the old filter down and insert the double IAQS unit in the wide opening. I don't know how your 06 S60R will be configured though, you may want to take a good look at it before deciding to go ahead with that. On my V50 it's a huge pain, you have to remove the accelerator pedal to get at it.<p>Tom.
