Re: R Shift Knob... (Sue Esponte)

I don't like this one, but I don't care much for the original knob, either. The seams of the leather cover are poorly crafted IMO. The edges of the leather are exposed and are sharp. I'm not saying it's painful or anything... just saying it's not a tactile delight.
I read once where Honda places extreme importance on all surfaces that the driver touches because this is the point of human/machine interface and can have a large impact on the perception of quality. Mr. Honda would not approve of the the Volvo MT shift knob.

i don't like it either.
Unless you are doing your interior in blue - and go ALL the way - like Frank Hoffy did - that blue shift knob will stand out in your car so badly...it won't look right. If you have bright blue custom leather - then it might work.
You could get the same style knob, but instead of that blue, get one with black trim.
unless you really trick out the inside of your car, adding one or two pieces of bright blue stuff will totally make your car look cheap. Ever see those ricer civics...and the interior has bright yellow or orange AC vents, a shift knob, and shoulder harnesses.... it just looks sad. Now if the ENTIRE inteior is yellow...while it might be loud/in your face styling - it at least would "work".
here is a pic of my new momo knob, side by side with my OEM knob. I personally like both the look and feel of the small momo ball shifter a LOT better. It fits in my hand better, and as it sits lower - it feels sportier. It's a bit harder to shift if I have a drink in the cupholder...but for spirited driving, when the cubholder is closed/empty - it's way better. Only drawback is the aluminum part gets hot if it's a real scorcher of a day. I think the look of the knob I picked flows nicely with the OEM interior too. My knob is aftermarket, but to the untrained eye, it looks OEM.

this next pic is a bit out of focus..but you can see that the aluminum portion of my knob matches nicely with the stock aluminum shaft and spaceball. There were a few "aluminum" knobs I looked at that did NOT match very well at all. They looked like they would when i saw them in the store, but the guy let me take them out to my car and it was clear they looked "off".
this was teh knob I *almost* bought. I liked how it looked, but it hurt my hand. VERY unpleasant feeling vs. the simple ball.

I actually don't like the blue either. I was really just thinking more about the knob itself - kinda funky - and wondering if the silver might match up with the interior. Then again, Sean's point on the size and shape is good, too. It looks like it could be HUGE. Oh well, onward and upward.
-Eric

I like that one better Sean, but I think the best looking Momo, which is very similar to yours, is:

Race Airleather
I like the "ball" look, plus it has the leather all around the sphere so it wouldn't burn your hand on a hot day.

Modified by liverichly at 11:59 AM 12-13-2006

The first one is kind of cool if you took the MOMO off the top and it wasn't in blue - gray or black instead. It would't be as obnoxious and would look different and interesting.
