R Radio/Stereo constantly switching Source and Station

Totally bizarre. Radio starts switching in no apparant order between FM1-3, AM1-2 and CD as the source. It just starts flipping out. Also appears to switch between stations. Warranty just ran out!

I don't think it is the steering wheel connectors since there is no source toggle on the wheel.
I can't find anyone else with this issue, but I am concerned since there seems to be so many posts about faulty stereos. I have never heard of factory stereo going bonkers. LAME.

My 2000 S40 did that crap too!
It is annyoing as hell usually beating it a little and pushing some random buttons and it would work for a couple days or weeks then do it again... Bummer it is happening in your R... I don't know if I would handle the problem the same way
Sorry man.

Its your radio. I replaced many of them that did the exact same thing.
Get an exchange from the dealer. Cheapest thing to do.
Or go for the BluePower http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=111928

Mine does the exact same thing! Problem is that it will never do it when it is at the shop and the dealer thinks I am crazy as they state they have never heard of the issue and it does not do it when they have it. I am very frustrated as it is VERY annoying to keep changing the station back to what you are listenting to when it radomly changes the station.

I've had my HU-850 turn itself on twice in a weekend a month or so ago. It hasn't been weird at all since then, so I'm not gonna bother complaining to the dealer...

My 850 has terrible FM reception, it's like it cycles from mono to stereo every 15 seconds. Plays CD's perfectly, just very annoying when listening to radio (any FM station) ... I try to disregard it, figure I'll replace it some day.

The OP was saying his was changing band selections and that is definitely internal with the radio.

Now if they are only changing through the Presets on the particular band its set on, then it could be the steering wheel controls for the Radio. Steering wheel controls are usually replaced before the radio. Usually you can get it to act up by pressing the buttons a few times and waiting for the stations to start changing on their own. Easy to replace.

Sometimes though its just the customer hitting the steering controls while turning or driving and no real problem.

I hit mine on occasion and it annoys me. I may disconnect the steering wheel controls as I don't use them anyway, I'm old school and like a knob. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: R Radio/Stereo constantly switching Source and Station (Oceans60R)

Thanks! That is probably good advice. I like the BluePower option. Is it as good as advertised?
Re: R Radio/Stereo constantly switching Source and Station (Oceans60R)

I am not the OP, but mine goes absolutely crazy and randomly changes stations, across the entire spectrum, and not just the presets. It may do it 3 times in a day and then not again for a week or two. I have seen it start changing stations when I am driving or just sitting in the car so I know it is not from me hitting any buttons.

I am glad to hear others have had this same situation so I know I am not crazy. I just need to get it to duplicate the issue in front of a service advisor in order to get it replaced under warranty.
