So I pulled in my driveway today and something didn't feel right at all with the R. It didn't take long to realize that probably 50 feet from my house the power steering pump went. It didn't seize or anything, but it's clearly failed.

So now, my car is out of warranty in months not miles...up in November. I have about 43500 on the car now. Anyone care to place a wager as to whether or not you think Volvo might goodwill this? I am going to call tomorrow and see what they say. The most they can say is no. I have to have it towed to the dealer which I hate because it's so low but oh well.

Ugh...peRfect ending to a peRfect day.

That is complete saRcasm.

Does the R have a special PS pump? I'm going to replace the one on my '01 S60 2.4T this weekend. Picked up one from a 2004 S60 (same part number and fluid type). Seems pretty easy as it's positioned at the top near the front.

Oh mike before I forget once you pull it out , or if you want I can do it for you its only three bolts.

for payment I will take your old pump off you I have a few things I wanted to check out on it

Should take less then 1/2hr to change out.
Remove line
drain fluid from pump
remove other line
remove three bolts
remove pump
put new pump in an reverse process.

Looks about right. Got this in the S60 forum:
1. Take Auxiliary belt off
2. Drain Power steering fluid (out of the reservoir (optional))
3. Disconnect 2 lines at the pump (ones rubber and other is steel)
4. Unbolt the pump, the pumps pulley will line up with the bolts (there is holes on the pulley)
5. transfer old parts to new pump (one bracket)
6. bolt new pump to car and hook up hoses
7. fill reservoir with new Volvo power steering fluid (about 20 bucks a liter..Ouch)
8. Start car and turn wheels left to right from lock to lock, holding the steering wheel at lock max. 2 seconds (you should never go lock it is hard on all the steering components)
9. as you go lock to lock you should notice the steering feel get easier.

Note: once you are finished you may notice some old fluid in the reservoir at this time i would recommend taking that fluid out and filling/topping off with new fluid

Not a chance. After all, your car is modded and that probably caused it.
