I have one that is not so new. It is mostly the R metal that is dented and beat up, along with the thin plastic curb that surrounds it is broken. The buttons are also beat up for some reason. Has anyone done these to end up with a new key? I have not priced what going new at the dealer is, but I can imagine it is not cheap.

I picked up a parts key on ebay for $20.

It is a little under $400 if you get a whole new key. Programing is included in that price and with that you can program as many keys as is available on your car, think it's limited to 5.

Just buy something like this if you want new buttons: http://www.ebay.com/itm/XC70-S80-S6...e:Volvo|Model:S60&hash=item256461d915&vxp=mtr However, you'd still need to purchase that new backplate, which I believe you can actually get from Tasca parts for a bit cheaper.

If it's just the buttons and back plate that need to be replaced, that's an easy swap, but you have to swap the electronic internals and swap the heads of the keys unless you want to pay for reprogramming of either part.

Neither of the first two links provided will work for our cars and are overpriced. One is for the older style S80 key fob and the other obviously for C70's (though maybe you're just using these as examples).

DarekP has a good idea there and if you're handy, it's worth a try. I'm personally too scared of breaking the glass transponder tube when swapping keys, and that fix is typically for those where the metal switchblade piece has become loose or doesn't click in at all anymore and just flops around.

Confirmed the R back plate is available via Tasca Parts. I swapped one of mine. I think shipping is more than the part itself, so make sure you order a few more needed parts.
