Is the "Duratec" I5 turbo engine in the new euro spec Ford Focus RS the same (or related to) the B524T2-R engine in our "Rs"?
I've enjoyed my V70R despite a few headaches but its getting close to time to say goodbye and I'm rather sad that its not available anymore. It would be cool to think that a part of the R is living on in the Focus RS, even though we can't buy it over here

Re: "R" Engine Vs Duratec I5 Engine (JRL)
I was sufficiently interested to do some research. Looks to me like the motor is basically an R engine:
http://www.motortrend.com/road....html
But the intake and turbo/intercooler are different.
http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=1810

Re: (Chilled Man)

The fact that the engine (or a variant of it) is still in production might mean there is a glimmer of hope that it could show up in some future Volvo model.
I had been thinking that the use of the engine in the Focus RS might spawn some cool aftermarket parts but it looks as though the configuration would make it unlikely these would fit on the R engine.

It would require some custom work but will fit our cars.
Spin the DP around and inake to the other side along with extending your MAF wires and your golden

Re: (andrewmo)

Are there any parts of the RS engine "swappable" with our engine? I'd assume they have figured out the weaknesses of the P2 R engine and improved some parts in this new engine?

Re: (Short Circuit)

I wonder how many Focus RS folks will be blowing through cylinder walls in the near future..?

Re: (Chilled Man)

Same block ; but piston different . thay are using high compression piston .
If they want to bring down the compression ratio to 8.5 : 1 . I'm sure that the cylinder head design is totally different with R .
