Ok so I am thinking of putting an R engine in another vehicle, and I have some questions.

Are the m45/m46/m47 bellhousings patterns the same as an m66?

My plan was to try to use a Borg Warner T5 adapter behind one of these housings.

off topic, but I haven't seen any posts about your SR rebuild...how's it coming along if I may ask?

Not good, after pulling it apart, too many things are bent out of shape on the front end of the chassis to save it. It'll be getting parted out more than likely.

To answer the original question, NO. The white engines that were used in RWD applications used an M90 gearbox. It is mostly the M56 transaxle geartrain put in a case driving an output shaft. I think the only use for the version that will work behind white motors was in 960/s90/v90 95-98.

Longitudinal mounting a whiteblock with a T5 is becoming very popular, there are about 5 guys on turbobricks doing it right now. There's a T5 adapter made for a 960 automatic bell housing, which does exactly what you want. Here's the for sale thread:

Here's the development thread:

Here's a general RWD whiteblock thread, specifically geared around installation in a Volvo 240 series:

The 95-98 960 had a 2.5 litre motor as well as a 2.9 litre. It used the smaller 2.3 litre bores however it had NA pistons. It was sold in the UK.

The 2.5 litre 960 had a manual option. That would be the 'box that would suit the 5 cylinder whiteblock.

I can't imagine they'd use the stock engine management in a transplant, would they?
I imagine a standalone ECU is possible. There are plenty for other ME7 applications.

This makes me all sorts of happy and thinking of a couple of project cars that would be R worthy...

There was a whiteblock swapped 240 at the Midsommar Meet for the Gateway VCOA that was from KC, I think he was on volvospeed.com
