To answer the original question, NO. The white engines that were used in RWD applications used an M90 gearbox. It is mostly the M56 transaxle geartrain put in a case driving an output shaft. I think the only use for the version that will work behind white motors was in 960/s90/v90 95-98.
Longitudinal mounting a whiteblock with a T5 is becoming very popular, there are about 5 guys on turbobricks doing it right now. There's a T5 adapter made for a 960 automatic bell housing, which does exactly what you want. Here's the for sale thread:
