Does anybody actually have an actual order placed for an R car yet? I put a deposit down with my dealer and he hand wrote things up on a gerneral sales contract. I called today to ask if things were progressing and he told me they are still waiting on some documentation before actual orders can be placed.
Also, does anybody know if the V70R comes standard with roof rails? I'm also wondering about the versatility package. The information that was posted on this site shows it as an option, but the literature from Volvo at the dealership does not. What gives? Thanks.
Craig

Re: R Car Orders (cvs)

I have also made a deposit on a V70R and the dealer has filled out a signed purchase order specifying options. The dealer has been told by the Volvo regional rep. that Volvo is not accepting orders for the "R" at this time. The Regional rep. did not know the date when orders would be offically accepted.
I do not think the V70R comes standard with roof rails and in my case I hope they do not. The dealer I went to had the versatility package listed on his list of options available for the "R". The versatility package does not list roof rails but does list, IMO, those terrible integrated booster seats. They may be fine for children but they are very uncomfortable for adults due to limited padding available as part of the booster seat design. I was only interested in the 12volt outlet part of the versatility package. The dealer indicated they could add that feature later.

Can you confirm that the 12volt outlet in the rear cargo area can be added on later? I am also only interested in that option.
Thanks,
RJ

Re: R Car Orders (B518T)

The dealer told me that they have added the 12volt outlet after delivery to other Volvos and he would be glad to add it to my car. He stated the cost of the panel and outlet parts was over $200 plus labor!

 if you can get the diagram for it, it will probably cost cheaper to do it yourself. Especially when you can get the parts less online.
RJ

I totally agree with you. The car is probably already pre-wired for the outlet and you only need to buy the panel and outlet at a discount.

We already have 3 deposits and we are handling the orders like we have when the XC90 orders started to come in.
We cannot oficially order an R, yet...that should happen within a month or so.
Euro roof rails are not standard on the 2004 V70 R.
Yannis

Good to hear that those rails are not standard. I didn't have them on my old wagon and don't want them on this one. Yannis, do you think the Passion Red is the same as your wagon? I hope so. Otherwise I may change my order to the platinum grey. You gotta sharp lookin' wagon there.

If you order through TDS, you can add the 12V outlet for a mere $25, according to the PDF file I recently downloaded from Volvo's Overseas Delivery site.

Re: R Car Orders (cvs)

I just got invited to the press introduction of the R cars in Las Vegas on March 30 & 31. The press introduction is at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I gotta say, I'm looking forward to it. I saw the V70R at the LA auto show, and I do not remember seeing roof rails on the car displayed.
I do think that if you want an R you should put a deposit down now at a dealer, because they are anticipating a waiting list. Judging from the behavior of some dealers with pricing the X/C90 you might also make a deal on paying the sticker price, not more. I am bugging everybody I know at Volvo to make sure I get an S60R. Every Volvo Executive, manager and dealer guy I have talked to are all ordering them as company cars. THey will be hard to get.
We will have initial driving impressions, performance numbers, etc in the issue of Rolling that follows the press intro.
Lee Cordner
President Volvo Club of America
JOIN VCOA at http://www.vcoa.org
The actual color, Classic Red, is a bit darker than how it is shown there. The sun was shining upon the car and it made it look more like an orange red. So, the Passion Red is going to look pretty close to what my car looks in the picture but my car, in real life, has a bit more red in it.
Yannis

colors?

i very enthusiastically put a deposit on a v70r, my only exception to the car being the colors offered and the inconsistent reports on which colors are actually actually available..this is an amazing car and happens to be the perfect car for me as well, but no color besides black tells me i'm driving a real mean wagon....candy colors and girly-girl colors are cool, but i don't want to drive one...truth be told, it's going to be mostly men who drive these cars, so why not offer a wider range of darker colors, make it look like it weighs its 3764 lbs? it's probably a shrewd move of offering bright colors so to get the the wife to go along. i can hear it now, 'oh sure, honey, you'll be able to 300hp and a stick.'

colors?

i suspected that talkng about 'girly-girl' colors would raise the hackles of some, but i think have a point...besides grey and black, which are non-colors to begin with, i'm struck at the lack of choice here...with aqua, or 'flash green,' and the red, (which is as much orange as it is red) am i presumptuous to expect at least one interesting dark color? I agree that a special car needs a limited number of colors, but i'd expect there would be more options for a car which, let's face it, is a real screamer.
my second point was the lack of materials and definitive list of exactly which colors are being offered, and a way to intelligently makea decision...no dealer i've been to have been able to show me swatches of the colors in question. i would be thankful to anyone with a definitive list and some swatches
and no offense to the ladies....one of my fondest memories was my mother buying her ford torino wagon in 1971 and waiting an extra six months for, not only the right color, but the three-speed on the column manual transmission...she was a fantastic driver..... and here i am 30 years later....the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Re: colors? (edwardkeating)

Mr. Keating,
If you're like me, you put the car in the garage. While I had the 855R, I was going to the car wash once every week or two. The bright, fire engine red was fast-looking but trouble to keep clean. Yup, I miss that red wagon and the tan interior with the light ash wood dash. It was a good looking car. For my V70R order, I've chosen to get the Ti Grey with the dark leather for a change as well as for the fact that NYC is a dirty place, even in the garage. My wife cares less about color than safety, which leaves me wondering who is more superficial. Clearly me, though I care about the whole package. I can't imagine driving any other car (family man).
Oh, BTW, did you order at the place in mid-town? Those guys are clueless. Nobody there really KNOWS the R models. However, they were more than happy to take my deposit.
