Hey everyone. I've been on Swedespeed for a while, but normally in the P80 forums. After getting interest in selling my 850 R, I figured it was time to move to a newer, smaller Volvo. I had been looking for manual cars FOREVER, and there were very few in my area, if any. Finally I happened upon a M66 2011 C70 with only 91,000 miles, in my area, with a book of records. I went to look at the car on a Thursday, and bought it the next day. Big thanks to C30 in WI, the previous owner, he took excellent care of this vehicle and I plan to do the same.

Here is a quick hatch photo I took after getting back with the car:

This is my first manual car (although I've driven friend's cars before) so any tips on how to drive these cars to avoid clutch wear would be appreciated. I don't want to do a clutch anytime soon lol.

Immediately I noticed the cabin air temp sensor was super loud, so I took it apart and blew it out, and after reinstalling it, it's pretty quiet. After that, I went to work on removing the piece of paper that was stuck in the CD drive. After getting it out, reassembling the console, and testing it, I'm happy to report it works perfectly.

Is there anything I can do to remove the green color from the CD slot?

Things to do on the car: I feel as though this car needs motor mounts, the shifts are a little clunky unless you completely baby the clutch. It also makes some good clunks over bumps, don't know if these are related or they are suspension based. Also would like to figure out how to get these spots off of the trim plastic. Any thoughts are appreciated!

A PSA for those of us who live in rusty territories...

Check your plate holders! I went to remove my plate to add new stainless acorn nuts, and two of the nuts / studs just spun. Got another OEM one, and new mounting bolts for the bumper as well. But I would hate for someone to be in my same situation.

Also, went on my first large road trip with the car this last weekend. WI to OH to WV to PA to WI. Car performed great, those west virgina hills are capital F fun with this thing. Developed a slight brake squeak, whoops; but those are left overs from the old owner anyways, they're probably due by now.

Got a chance to run down to the salvage yard and pull one of these little nubs I have been missing for some time. $3 from LKQ is better than $55 from Volvo for the whole arm. My car is missing mine since the actuator snapped the piece that held the door lock rod on. A project for a day off coming soon, I now have all the parts including all the door clips.

Also got a new air filter in, old one was fine but was there since I purchased the car. Oil change with Mobil 1 0W-40 + Mann filter and a wash afterwards.

Spilled a little bit of old two-stroke fuel from a backpack blower I bought off CL on the rear carpet area. Used a new carpet cleaner (which I also got off CL :) ) with chemical guys carpet goo to get the smell / stain out. I really need one of those rear cargo mats, but they're going for INSANE prices on eBay, ~ $300.

Rotated the tires and changed out the power steering fluid. Used the vacuum extractor to make life a little easier. I’d also recommend removing the wheel liner on the passenger side to see the actual fill level!

Not too bad a job. Would definitely be worth doing for those of you who keep your cars for a while. Bad news is the majority of my road noise did not go away after a tire rotation, so I’m looking at front wheel bearings In the near future.

I seem to have developed a leak in my A/C because the cooling is very weak recently. I replaced the clutch assembly on the compressor just after buying the car 2 years ago, so I don’t believe it’s the common cycling on / off issue.

Any ideas on simple leak points for these cars or am I looking at an evaporator coil and dash out repair?

Got around to the not fun task of replacing the door lock actuator and the missing door lock rod. Words to the wise, DO NOT break this if you have your door panel off unless you‘d like to spend 3 hours for this kind of “fun”.

Also used mostly new door clips so nothing rattled, you will need 11 in total for the door (I bought 10 and reused a good one).

Hopefully I'll have some tips for you once I do mine. 2 and a half years later the virus finally caught up to me, so I'm down for the week, but it's also given me some time off, so we'll see if the car gets any love ;).

Dang! Hope you get better soon!

Regarding the tips for the job, I basically I was already there a few days ago when I replaced the intake manifolds on mine. So I'll leave my advice for anyone about to go through this. The most difficult part will be getting the airbox out. But as I mentioned in other threads, it's not impossible. Just have the car sitting on jackstands, unbolt the passenger side motor mount from the frame rail and raise the engine a little bit with a piece of 2x4 between the jack and oil pan and push the engine back. Then let the engine rest on the motor mount and remove the airbox by sliding it towards the drivers side. It will not go out without maneuvering it a little bit and it will rub against other components and get a few scratches, but all of them will stay hidden when it's back on the car. The secret is to not freak out and yank it out or grab a sawzall. Replacing the coolant hoses it's straightforward.

I’ve had two faulty high pressure A/C lines that failed in the exact same spot…right where the rubber line meets the crimp fitting.

My wife and I just got over it. Sucked. I’ve had it 3 times but this last time I had every symptom available. Fever for 4 days with crazy sweats, cough, nose running like a faucet, headache (and I never get headaches) tired as hell for 5 days, and last but not least….still don’t have my full sense of taste or smell back. Literally put my wife in bed for 4 days with cough, runny nose, mild fever, headache. She didn’t lose her taste and smell.

Hopefully you don’t have any issues.

Wow, three times sounds awful in every way. Since I work in IT retail and serve all kinds of people, I went and got all three shots as soon as I could. I can imagine they’re helping immensely as my brother had it a few months back with only two of them and had a harder time. For me right now, it just feels like a bad cold / flu.

Can’t wait to get back on my feet and working on stuff again.

In the mean time, I noticed that FCP euro only carries the OEM Volvo hood strut at $113 or something ridiculous. After cross referencing other sites I found that STABILIUS (likely the OE) makes a replacement for around $20. I emailed them, so hopefully they can start carrying the OE replacement. Mine is going weak over time.

Yeah, we’re (entire family) triple faxed. Last was well over 6 months though. Got em as soon as our age groups were available.

Used to work at very large state fairs and trade shows. 10s of thousands of people in a weekend.

Can anyone link to a good VIDA install guide? I have 2014D, but I'm trying to install it to a new computer running windows 7 pro and hitting a few snags (ie 9 and getting the patch to work).

Also may attempt the cooling system work on the C30 later today as well.
did you apply the Jan-01-2018 expiration fix?
No, which I assumed was the patch but I am getting a little confused on what to do first here, so a guide or some laid out instructions would be helpful first.
Here's a guide for 2014A, but also works for 2014D: Volvo VIDA DiCE 2014D

So, if you already completed the VIDA installation process, and applied the patch that came with the installation files, I would try also applying the expiration fix. Maybe that's what you're missing here.

I'm not sure which patch you have. But the one I got in the DVD that came with my DiCE, stopped working after december 31 2017. Then I found another patch that was meant to correct that specific problem, but doesn't replace the original one.
