Is the Triple-K turbo on our Rs a ball bearing turbo or not? Also, has anyone actually successfully replaced their turbo with a larger aftermarket turbo?

The GT series is a dual ball bearing that spools much easier than the K series. off the shelf it will still spool faster.

And yes, Johann and R_Rated to name a few

The turbo would be the easy part... Get a GT3071R. Now you need to find a manifold, manipulate the end of your DP with the appropriate flange, and make new piping to go from over the engine to the turbo. The hardest part again will be the manifold. IPD can sell you a tune.

Re: (R_Rated)

Thanks for the info. Anything in regards to fabrication wouldn't be too difficult for me. I just need to be able to source the appropriate parts. I've already been planning on building my own custom exhaust, everything available for our cars doesn't really impress me.

But all of this is in the future, I've only had my R for a few weeks now. But I'm missing the power of my Audi S4's V-8 engine. My ultimate goal is to have around 450HP (crank) while keeping it reliable, practical and street legal. But this is further down the road, I'll enjoy my bone-stock R for now.

Those two don't quite go hand in hand with these engines, 410 seems to be safe

Agree around 390-410 bhp tops.. You can do more with a scramble
boost for short duration

For this I recommend an FMIC with excellent connections (Wiggins on
compressor or ATP V-Band there)

An all aluminium high effieciency radiator (Ron Davis) and various details
such as metal diverter valve, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, ester based oil, oil cooler, and tuning that is rich enough http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I go back and forth about that. Is it possible it leans out the mix?

I wondered about this. I finally finished putting mine on and the A/F gauge concludes a more conservative A/F at full boost. I don't have an oil temp gauge on my R but Blot said the aquamist lowered his temp pretty good.

Conservative meaning richer?

I just need to learn more about it before I use it. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Blot uses it.... that was enough for me. he has the most miles on a bigger turbo R and his prolly has received the most abuse.

I would like to see wideband A/F readings coming from whenever aquamist
starts to run. Something like you have onboard A/F. Not sure blot has
that gauge. Maybe ArtVandelay does

For you...

Tuned with aquamist, hence its very lean..

The MTE stage 3 tune has an aggressive ignition retard if knock is detected. So when the aquamist fails, the tune should protect the engine.

I've run 2 track sessions without aquamist now (awaiting a pump replacement), painfully slow as I'm down by about 50hp by butt feel, but still quite safe I hope.

Re: (JRL)

According to what I've researched, it should be easy to pull another 60HP+ with proper tuning and a high quality exhaust. I'm still undecided on the tuning, but the exhaust I'll fabricate on my own.

As long as I'm able to push a minimum of 400HP I would be happy. Anything extra is a bonus. 450HP would probably be the most I'd want, if I wanted to go faster I'd hop on one of my bikes.

Re: (Helmut Ranff)

Thanks for the recommendations. What is an "FMIC" by the way? I'm guessing it stands for Front Mounted Intercooler. Am I wrong?

Not easy. Possible, but not easy.

The KKK-24 is a restriction.
