Hi all -

We've been looking at getting a new XC40 Recharge or P*2, but the wait time is prohibitive for us right now. (There is a bit of 'musical cars' going on in the family.)

Today at my favorite local Volvo dealership I stumbled across a 2018 XC60 T8 Inscription with 22k miles (lease turn-in) that would fit the bill, at least temporarily. We already have one 220V plug here at home for my Volt, so it fits our lifestyle. We'd be okay waiting for a pure electric as the range figures still show a lot of room for improvement.

Our nearest Polestar store is in Boston with limited appointment times, and the Volvo dealer would need to special-order an XC40 as they're holding their only one as a demo vehicle for the foreseeable future. We would prefer the P*2 but I really want to give the Volvo dealership the business. Plus, we need a car NOW!

We don't care all that much about the pure EV range as much as the AWD and the hybrid fuel economy. Of course, the speed helps, as does the space advantage over the XC40.

Terrible time to be in the market, I know, but this seems like a convenient opportunity for us, at about the same price point as the P*2 we would be getting. Tomorrow afternoon we head to the dealer for a test drive. Fingers crossed it's still there.

My questions are for S60, V60 or XC60 owners, specifically of the T8. (My grandmother has been tearing around town in her 2018 T6 with no problems for a long time now):

Would you recommend a low-mileage CPO example? How do you like yours? What's your average MPGe?

That's a long post with a short question. It's highly subjective. I like my '21 XC60 T8. My overall average is 26.3 MPG but I spend a lot of time in Polestar mode on mountain roads and the rest of the time in hybrid in city driving. I went with the T8 over a T6 for the 0-60 and the torque so YMMV.

T8 CPO should be just fine. You can buy extended CPO warranty to cover to 10 years for about $3k. I like mine very much and can't imagine buying ICE cars now. In old days we commute more and it was 40MPG. Now we WFH and it is 150MPG. I only refill it every 6 months. On long trip it is about 27/28mpg. Because the ICE is not stressed or used much, I feel I can drive it for 20 years or longer.

The best part is quiet drive in city traffic, and the power when you want to enjoy. Now I also try some power mode to finish the fuel in 6 months.

Purely anecdotal, but I say buy it if you like it.
My 2018 XC60 T8 is the best car I have ever owned and I absolutely love it.
50K miles on it so far and only three trivial problems that were all fixed by a software update. None of them affected driveability.

This is all great information, thank you all. I can't wait to go down to the dealer and see it in person [again]. The five year warranty will probably seal the deal.

I have very similar feedback to this with my V60 PE (T8). While I can do most of my daily driving in Pure Electric mode, I find myself in Polestar mode most frequently for the fun of it. Average MPG in the low 30s but it varies wildly depending on my mood.

Good luck with the decision.

Another vote for T8. Had an XC90 T5 for 3 years and liked it enough to go back to Volvo. This time the T8 price premium was about zero after the tax credit, so I got that power train.

Much nicer to drive than the T5, love the electric smoothness.

Family musical cars (well put!) also put me in a 22 T8. Being so new to it I can't add much other than I don't regret getting into this powetrain. Most of the wife's trips are within a 5-10 mile radius and it mainly stays in Pure; and I find it has a lot of pull when you need it (onramps, highway). At this rate and the 18gal tank looking at fill-ups every other month. I'm with you, the next car purchase likely puts us in a PS2, but for right now happy I got the T8.

We were able to take the car home last night and get more familiar with it. What a beautiful vehicle. I took it for a short loop around the block and got familiar with the hybrid setup. My step father loves everything about it but the light interior. My mother and I are begging him to acquiesce!

I didn't want the blonde interior but took it because it was the only XC60 in 200 miles with air suspension. Turns out I actually love it. It grows on you!

At the risk of turning this thread into a spat over preferred colors, which are completely personal preference, +1 for blonde nappa leather! I have seen threads where people knock it, but we like it. We've only had it 1,000 miles, so we'll see how it wears and resists discoloration over the years. I assume yours is doing fine?

I'm at ~12k miles and it's still looking good. I use the Volvo leather cleaner and protector on it every 6 months or so.

I told him it was definitely something he could get used to! I personally adore it. Very airy.

Well, we bought it. It'll be ready this afternoon. Will post some pictures.
