Hello, me and a couple of friends have found a fairly cheap old Volvo 544 that we may purchase and restore. I was just curious if anyone else has restored one or a similar model in the past and knows of the general costs we could expect or where to find parts.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Swedespeed, Bob.

Restoring an old Volvo is good for your health especially after all the work is done and you and your friends roll into a big Volvo Meet all shiny and bright.

If your candidate 544 is rusty and has much body damage/repair be prepared to spend many hours cutting and welding.

Just about any part can be had new and/or used.

Let's say you buy the car for $1,000 then restore it to as-new original condition for another $9,000.

The other option is to buy a nice ready-to-drive 544 for $9,990 then go have a beer with your buddies.

George, One way or another having a few beers with your buddies is always good, especially as the years go by. As far as the 544, I love working on mine, and I also love taking it out for some exercise as often as possible!!!! I do believe that the bottom line on these old Swedes is they don't have to be perfect, they don't have to be original, they just need to be loved and driven as much as possible.
