Hello I own a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T executive with 5.1 pro logic surrond sound stereo. I really want to put a bass box unit with two 12" subs running off a 820w amp.
On the flip side I don't want to lose the pro logic either, can it be done?

Re: Question regarding adding additional speakers and a amp to a v ... (Hughesy 9mm)

Yes, just use a line driver adapter and connect your sub to the rear (hat tray/package tray) speakers. Any car stereo shop can do it for you.

It really is easy to add an external sub/amp to the Volvo sound systems, isn't it? Especially since the battery is right there in the trunk.

Make sure the amp you buy has line-level inputs, then connect the amp inputs to the sub channel (the .1 in 5.1) and you're in business. also if the amp is putting out 820 watts, use at least 4 gauge power cable to get maximum power to your amp.

Plug this into the rear of your HU, and connect to your amp.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...Video

Good catch BEJ, this is true, not Dolby 5.1 but Pro Logic, no discrete sub channel.

Quote, originally posted by BEJinFbk »

As far as I know, this is an analog Pro Logic system.
No digital surround = no 5.1
Just 4.
L,C,R,Rear (in Dolby Surround mode).
(at least on this side of the pond)
So, affirm on a LOC off of the rears.
LR+ = Green/White-Green
LR- = Green
RR+ = Green/White-Green
RR- = Green
And pretty much ALL amps have line
level RCA inputs, so no worries.
And +1 on a large B+ lead.
Don't forget the fuse at the battery!

To be totally honest, my Boston Acoustics GT-50 5 channel amp doesn't have line level inputs, but since I didn't need them no big deal. So yeah a line level input off of the rear channel should be a good starting point.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
-Inigo Montoya, Princess Bride - 1987
I believe that you're misinterpreting something here.
A Line level input is the type of unbalanced,
low impedence connection that a GT-50 has 6 of.
Don't let the term "Line Output Converter" throw ya.
It converts a high impedence, speaker level output to line level.
The RCA connectors on you amp ARE line level.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_level
Cheers!

Re: (BEJinFbk)

I meant speaker level inputs, typo (or several ) not RCA pre-amp inputs. sorry for any confusion.
