So I have read that 3g phone service will be ending in 2022 or 2023, depending on your carrier. Since my Volvo has 3g showing , is there an update from dealers on going to 4g? If not, does anyone know how to get it updated? Just concerned that I may lose my ability to answer the phone via the car. Thanks in advance for any input.

Talked with service manager today too. He says that I will still be able to answer phone in the car and still do Voice Commands, even if the 3g goes down., Wait and see, then if needed, scream and yell. LOL

The car's 3g service is used to power the hotspot and browser that are built into the car's infotainment. Your phone calls still rely on your phone's service, and this connects to the car via Bluetooth. There shouldn't be anything to worry about, and when the 3g service is canceled, you should be able to continue using your phone as normal! :)

Your service advisor is correct. The modem service has nothing to do with the Bluetooth. You will loose the emergency crash notification feature and if you have been subscribed to the On Call/ Volvo Cars app then that would no longer work. According to a customer I spoke with this morning, who had just spoken to Volvo customer support on the issue, Volvo told her they are expecting AT&T to continue 3g longer than the original plan for Feb 2022 due to the current global chip shortages. This had bee what I speculated on, but Volvo hasn't done a great job communicating what they don't know to us or customers. I think with everything going on, whoever has the task of finding a solution probably is working on other bigger challenges. Things are a mess like I've never seen or read about in the car industry. We haven't seen this sort of disruption in anything less than world wars.
